Community Q&A Question: Valve Clearances

Asking About: Mustang Ford Racing E303 Camshaft Hydraulic Roller, E Cam (85-95) 5.0L/5.8L

Valve Clearances

Can the E cam be used with stock heads and valves and do the pistons require any clearancing due to the increased lift?

Sorry, I meant stock valve springs - Gary 4 years ago

I'm sure glad this comment was corrected in saying that the 1.6 arms are the advertised rockers for this cam with stock heads. That first response about the 1.7 rockers was confusing for a cam that specified the 1.6 - Brad 3 years ago

Accepted Answer
The E Cam can be used with stock heads and pistons. However, you do need to upgrade to a 1.7 Roller Rocker and upgrade your valve springs to accommodate the increased lift.

Also, you shouldn't have to do any modifications to the piston, however you should always check your piston-to-valve clearance!

1.7:1 rockers are an option for increasing the lift on the E303 cam, but they are not required. You can use your stock 1.6 arms. You may, however, require slightly longer pushrods. - scott 4 years ago

Upgraded springs are and retainers are still a good idea, though, to get rid of the stock 2 piece retainers. - scott 4 years ago

Thanks for the information guys. Are you telling me that with 1.6 rockers you won't achieve the advertised lift? Also, where could I find part numbers for the upgraded springs and retainers? - Gary 4 years ago

Advertised lift is with a 1.6 rocker. We offer a tfs spring kit for stock heads that will work perfectly with the e cam. - scott 4 years ago
