The rule of thumb is for a motor to be properly oiled, it only needs 10 lbs of pressure per 1000 RPM, which a stock oil pump will easily provide. You have to be careful on high volume or high pressure pumps because they are designed for 8-9000 RPM motors and will suck all the oil from your pan and pump it to the top of the motor, which starves the bearings. Most engine builders say to use a stock oil pump for most street/strip builds.
