Community Q&A Question: Need x-pipe too?

Asking About: Mustang Magnaflow 3" Street Catback Exhaust - Stainless (11-12)

Need x-pipe too?

Magnaflow calls the 15589 a Cat Back system, but don't I actually need x-pipe 16398 to replace everything after the cats?

It is difficult to see in the picture, but while the piping is 3 inches, Magnaflow narrows the inlets down to slide into the factory mid pipe, so the x pipe is not required. It will still function with your factory mid pipe.

Thanks, I guess I didn't quite word it right, but that answers my question. To me, if it was cat back on this car, it would replace the h-pipe, too. Or maybe I just don't understand the accepted meaning of a Cat Back system. - Gary 5 years ago

When the exhaust companies refer to a system as a catback, its is for everything behind the mid pipe.
