kevin kotrola - 1988 ford mustang lx
I found my 88 mustang on eBay UK. I was stationed in England with the US Air Force for 3 years and my mustang was like my little piece of America. I bought it sight unseen and drove 2 hours with a few good buddies paid the guy and drove it back home. After my first deployment I started to put a lot of money and hours into it. When trying to upgrade my brakes and suspension I found that the mustang started life as a 4 cylinder. Today it is a carbureted 302 backed by a built transmission and an 8.8 rear end with 3:73s. After a dyno run at a local car show I was disappointed by the numbers. It made 283 hp and 328ftlb. Which isn’t bad but I wanted more. After redoing the complete fuel system and intake I went back to the dyno. This time it made 301 hp and 353 ftlb. From what I have seen that’s not too bad for a stock long block engine. About this time I was coming to the end of my tour in England. After getting reassigned to Oklahoma and getting my ride shipped to the states I hit the drag strip. I drive my car 75 miles to the nearest track in Wichita Falls TX. Even thought is only an 1/8m track I still have a good time. After a summer of racing my best time was an 8.7 in the 1/8th. After only one summer of race time I got orders for my second deployment. When this deployment is over I plan on doing some more upgrades and spending a lot of time at the track. Thanks to Late Model Restoration I was able to get my parts overseas with no problem. Well that’s the short story of my ride. I could go into more detail about the parts but I’ll let my pictures tell that story. Thanks again for the great service LRS provides.
