Phil Kostk - 1988 Ford LX 5.0 Hatchback
My Mustang was bought in 88 off the dealer lot by my Grandpa. The second picture is a few days after he picked it up. That's me on the little Porsche planning mods. He did an early 5-lug conversion using parts from a Lincoln Mk VII. He also added Edelbrock performer heads and intake, Crane cam, 1.72 roller rockers, hardened pushrods, MSD ignition, BBK 70mm TB/EGR, Moroso fenderwell CAI, C&L 76mm MAF, BBK U/L RCA's, BBK subframe connectors, BBK k-member brace, BBK strut tower bar, shift kit for the AOD, BBK lowering springs, and 16" mesh wheels off the Mark VII.
He gifted the car to me in 2005 after he suffered a stroke. Since then I have been bringing the car up to date. I switched out the Lincoln-based 5-lug setup for SN-95 spindles with 13" Mach 1 brakes, switched out the suspension with Maximum Motorport's coilover kit on bilstein race shocks/springs, swapped the rear end for a fresh posi unit with 3.73s, cobra brakes, and fox-length axles. Also swapped the AOD for a Tremec T3550 with straight-cut gears and a Pro 5.0 shifter. The wheels were changed out for 17x8/17x9 blacked-out Bullitt's. (Later upgraded to 17x10.5 in the rear, but I don't have good shots of those meats) It is currently waiting for a donor motor as the original 5.0 has lost nearly all compression in cylinder #3 and its about time for a swap.
