Jim Williams - 1989 Ford Mustang GT Convertible
This project will be my first restoration. I bought the car for only $1500 from a co-worker after it sat in his driveway for a year due to a starter problem. 117,000 original miles, BBK cold air intake, and less than 500 on the newly rebuilt AOD transmission at the time. My original plan was to throw on a new top and some seat covers and sell it a few months later at Mustangs at Queen Mary to make some cash. Problem is, I fell in love with the car. It needs a little more work than I anticipated (heater core, fuel gauge problem, old rickety suspension, window guides, etc . . .) but, so far, it's all little things that I can fix myself.
Future plans for the car include 17" 5-lug Bullet wheels (have the rims - just needs conversion and tires), 1" drop, smoothed trunk lid with a different (but tasteful) spoiler, Watts link, strut tower brace, and the standard performance bolt-ons (headers, off road H pipe, catback, tune, throttle body spacer). I don't want to make TOO much power because I don't want to twist it up. This car is being built for reliability and long road trips.
I have already had quite a bit of fun in this car and it is only going to get better! Once I get this one done, it's on to turn my '07 Mustang GT Premium Coupe into a street / track car. More interested in turning than blasting down the strip.
