Mustang Hurst Competition Plus Shifter
Easily bolt on the classic look and performance of a Hurst shifter with this 2011-2014 Mustang Hurst Competition Plus shifter! Nearly every early model Mustang you saw had the Hurst 4 on the floor shifter with the white ball shift knob. Now you can add that same classic Hurst styling and performance to your S197! This Hurst shifter utilizes a multi-link-type mechanism to achieve the perfect combination of a short throw shifter, reducing shift throw by 18%! This is achieved while maintaining a smooth as silk side-to-side shift. The factory reverse lockout is retained with a unique T-handle operated mechanism to ensure no accidental shifts into reverse!
Hurst has been a leading name in the automotive industry for over 50 years due to the quality of their products. This Competition Plus shifter is no exception. The shifter features CNC machined billet steel for precision quality that lasts. The Hurst shift knob is constructed with a Polymer that's durable and built to last. The knob has a smooth as glass feel and then coated with a gloss white finish. The factory 6-Speed pattern is engraved into the knob and finished in black for an easy to read display. Finally, the knob sits atop the iconic billet steel, chrome plated upper stick with the Hurst logo. This shifter combines classic styling with modern day performance for your S197!
This shifter gets a lot of things right. The reverse lockout lever works great. It's impossible to unitentionally put it into reverse. A lot of other shifters have issues with going into reverse. Not this one though. The shifter looks really good as well. The throws are shorter than stock but not by a huge amount. The feel of the shifts are much better. Install of this shifter is more complicated than some others. It's an easy install, and the instructions (for the most part) are well written. There's adjustments to be made before the shifter feels perfect, but once it's all dialed in, it works great. Hurst thankfully supplies you with a zip tie, grease, and thread locker. There's a few things I dislike though. It comes with 2 tiny plastic alan screws that round out super fast. One is supposed to screw into the base. They dont screw in easily at all so there was no hope of getting one of these things in before they rounded, even when using the exact size. You also have to cut your leather shift boot to get it to fit over the base. On top of that you have to cut a lot of your lower rubber shift boot to get it over the base as well. The problem with this is that it's no longer sealed correctly so you hear road and exhaust noise from the lower rubber boot after it's all done. I'm planning to seal it with something later, but it is kind of annoying right now. All in all its a great shifter with a few minor, yet fixable flaws.
