R12 to R134A Air Conditioning Conversion Kit
This Mustang air conditioning conversion kit will completely and correctly upgrade your Fox Body 1987-1993 Mustang's R12 system to the newer R134A system. It includes a new Mustang compressor, lines, condenser, all hardware and instructions to upgrade, as well as a stock length serpentine belt. Converts stock Mustang A/C Components to aftermarket, which means a more efficient compressor, bracketry, and new refrigerant hoses for use with the less expensive R134A refrigerant.

Problems with Mustang air conditioning systems can come from various sources - leaks, parts failure, electrical gremlins, and thermal issues. Any one of these - and quite often a combination of them - can cause the A/C system to blow warm air. Typically, the fix is to replace the offending part or reseal the leak and then recharge the system. Unfortunately, with R-12 refrigerant prices being what they are, even a simple $20 O-ring repair will require several hours of labor and more than $200 in R-12.

Many people sought R12 to R134a simply because the latter is lower priced, readily available, and can be bought without a license. Unfortunately, when R134A is introduced into a stock R-12 system with nothing more than a few new seals and some oil (the popular R134A conversion kits you see at the parts store), the A/C system isn't as efficient and vent-outlet temperatures rise. The best way to repair your A/C system and properly convert to R134A is to replace the components that hinder the R134A conversion, namely the condenser and the compressor.

Fitment Note
-The compressor included with this kit is a Sanden unit that has an 8-rib pulley. The design of the brackets included in this kit aligns the 8-rib pulley so that six ribs line up exactly with the existing pulleys and there are no belt alignment issues.
-Will only work on Mustangs equipped with A/C from the factory. Dealer installed A/C or non-A/C equipped Mustangs will not work.

Hood Clearance Warning!
Due to aftermarket hose design and slightly different hose routing, it is necessary to check for hood clearance issues between the A/C line service caps and the hood. Failure to check for clearance can cause hood damage. If service port interference is found, please slightly bend down A/C line for service cap to clear hood.
The components of this A/C Conversion kit are designed to work as a kit and are not available separately. OEM Ford parts WILL NOT interchange with these R134a conversion kits!

This kit was drop shipped form Hose Wizard it was ordered with other parts and LRS shipped them on Dec. 27- 2013 and I received the Hose Wizard kit on my door step on Jan 17- 2014 basically 3 weeks to ship to my house. I only have a couple complaints about the kit but other than that it seams like a good kit for a 134a a/c upgrade. There was some damage to my Condenser on the edges what isn't that important because it wont be seen but its just that I know its there I think they could of packaged it better like the SVE radiators are. When I opened the box that had the compressor fitting the o'rings were just loose in the box I hope they are all there and they are requiring a/c oil to put on all o'rings but there is no a/c oil provided. The last thing is the directions are hand written in not so good penmanship and the copies are not too clear to read. I would add more photos but would only let me add one

I've had this kit on my 89 GT for a few years now, and I'm still missing the ice cold bite that my factory style a/c system had. Even after converting it from r12 to r134a it still blew 39 degrees at the center vent. After suffering the black death, I was excited to get this kit and along with a new evaporator have a new perfectly cold system... Nope. Installation was a breeze, but not a cold one. While Glenn at Hose Wizards has always been willing to help (his cell phone number is even provided in the handwritten instructions), I've spent hours troubleshooting with him and still can't get the vent temp below a balmy 55 degrees. Fitment is a little wonky, the compressor is absolutely enormous, and the liquid line is about a mile too long. I didn't have any hood clearance issues with the factory hood, but forget about having a strut tower brace. I'll be going back to a factory style setup as soon as I recuperate the $700+ spent on this headache.

I purchased this A/C kit to convert the old R-12 system originally found in my 89 Mustang Convertible GT 5.0. I highly recommend this purchase. The local mechanic quoted me a price of $1800 for parts, labor, and charge the system for a similar conversion. Ouch, This guy must have been crazy! This was an easy install that save me over $900 bucks after doing it myself. the compressor is a Sanden consisting of high quality. all parts needed are here in the kit. I recommend picking up some R-134a system oil to lubricate all the snap together O-rings before installing. The additional compressor bracket can be confusing to properly set up, so expect some trial and error here until you figure it out. The instructions help, but I had to go on the interweb and read an article with pictures so I could determine which side of rear original mount to use. This should not deter you from purchasing. Just be aware the instruction do not cover everything clearly, but most is straight forward. when I showed up at the A/C shop to have vacuum pulled and system charged, they were impressed with the quality. system blows very cold. Please be aware that you will need a high efficiency engine radiator fan to make this system function correctly. Remember that R-134a runs on a higher pressure than 12, so a fan that does not pull enough air across the condenser core will not cool the interior effectively. I opted to purchase the Black magic electric fan part #FLX-185 and no problems with cooling, pulling approximately 3300 cfm helps. expect instructions to be hard to read as they are in cursive writing. LateModel Restoration has some downloadable ones that are typed into a PDF file. I also want to point out that the instructions mentions a screw timer on the compressor, but the compressor I received did not have this feature. 4 Stars for the product and parts, 0 for the instructions. All in all a great, quality product.

The good: Kit bolts together fine, works pretty good, customer support is very personal. (the guy that designed the kit includes his phone number)
The bad: The instructions are hand written with a lot of shorthand (comp for compressor, ft for front, etc) making deciphering them a time consuming process. Worse yet, they look like a copy of a copy of a copy. There are no pictures included in the instructions, just 3 diagrams. Only 1 of them is useful.
Please note you will need to supply PAG oil to lube O-rings and supply 14 gauge wire and connectors for the wiring.

Underhood A/C was removed from my car by a previous owner and living in the deep south with no A/C meant not driving my car in the summer months more often than I cared for. Read some good reviews on this kit on the Internet so I bought one. The only thing you have to be concerned about with this kit is clearance issues if you are using a strut tower brace. I have a maximum motorsports brace on mine and neither the dryer cannister nor the line to the compressor from the dryer had enough clearance due to the brace. This problem was solved by calling Hose Wizard, who makes this kit. Problem solved. Now that I have the kit installed, which was very simple by the way, I've got 36 degree air blowing!
The only thing that really could use an upgrade is the instructions. They are accurate and helpful but they are a photocopy of handwritten cursive notes. The copy quality is not great. The instructions are thorough though once you make them out.

I just finished putting this in the car and it's blowing colder than my factory system ever did. And it does so at every blower setting. With the original I found that I had to choose between high speed and warmer air or lowest setting and cold, even right after a recharge.

I put this in in conjunction with a new heater core, so while I was there I replaced the evaporator as well. I did have some trouble getting the right serpentine belt as the kit I was sent must have been meant for a no smog pump model. Even when I got the right one (which is K060932 by the way) I had to loosen the compressor up again and fight with it to get it on. Once on though it's great.

2 Stars   Compressor leaking in less than a year

I would advise avoiding this. I bought the entire conversion kit to go from R12 to R134a from LateModel. The whole A/C system was redone and I had a professional do it in order to get the benefit of the warranty. The compressor began leaking before a year, but I unfortunately did not notice until after that year was up and the warranty is only a year.

All I was offered was $50 off another potentially leaky A/C compressor (a $260 part), plus I would have to change the evaporator, etc. again, have it installed professionally, costing me another $600 or more after just spending $1000 last year. I don't think so. Should have stayed with R12 or gotten a better compressor. Best option now is to find a gasket kit and hopefully reseal the compressor.

The only good thing I can say is that the car does blow cold air and the other parts seem to work fine for now. However the A/C condenser I received was bent and I was told to bend it back. Really? Bend it back? Ended up with a new one in the end.

Although 1 year is a typical warranty for A/C compressors at any auto parts store (some are 2 year), I think LateModel needs to stand behind the products they sell and their customers who spend $1000s of dollars with them.

The second star is just because it does blow ice cold air.
