Lightweight Aluminum Driveshaft
Get faster acceleration and a lighter setup in your 2011-14 Mustang V6 with this Dynotech aluminum driveshaft. This lightweight driveshaft is a 1 piece shaft with a 4" diameter and .125" wall thickness for serious strength and durability. This beefy new design takes the worries away from breaking the stock 2-piece shaft and gives you a smooth, vibration free ride. Fits automatic and manual transmissions. Includes flange.
Why An Aluminum Driveshaft?
Adding a lightweight aluminum driveshaft to your Mustang reduces unsprung weight for quicker acceleration and reduced overall vehicle weight. These shafts weigh less than factory steel shafts and are the perfect upgrade for the enthusiasts who wants to get the most out of their Mustang. They can also reduce driveline vibrations for a smoother ride.
This driveshaft features a smaller diameter shaft compared to many other aluminum driveshafts on the market. This is intended to give you better clearance and avoid rubbing on lowered vehicles. As with all lowered S197 Mustangs, be sure to check pinion angle during your installation process. This not only avoids premature wear, but also helps ensure you will have proper clearance for your driveshaft.
The product itself is very high quality. The new driveshaft weighs 20.2 pounds which is around the same as the competitors and the stock shaft weighs 29.6. Let's be clear, 9.4 pounds is not going to make a huge difference in performance. It is absolutely noticeable though. The car doesn't tend to bog nearly as much if you come off the clutch too fast and it does feel like it pulls a bit harder at low rpm. I don't expect to see a huge difference at the strip though. It is also much more refined as you loose a lot of the clunks you get from poorly matched shifting. That said, the instructions are generic and completely awful. They basically just say to remove your old driveshaft, install an "adapter plate" (which this drive shaft does not even have or need), and install the new driveshaft using thread locker and torquing all fasteners to 75 lbs-ft. You will need to remove or at least move aside your over axle pipes as well and you do not need any kind of adapter plate. The driveshaft just bolts up using your original hardware exactly how your original driveshaft did. Overall this is a much needed upgrade for the V6, especially if you plan to track your car or add significantly more power. But don't expect this alone to turn your car into a rocket ship.
