Product Description

The Mustang Speed Calibrator or SpeedCal is used to correct electronic speedometers in 1996-04 Mustangs due to wheel and tire changes as well as rear gear ratio swaps.

The SpeedCal is capable of speedometer adjustments in increments of 0.2% and will provide accurate vehicle speed data above the displayed speedometer value (160mph for a late model Mustang Cobra). In order to retain this accuracy care should be taken in determining the correct binary code as the SpeedCal cannot provide accurate speedometer readouts with an incorrect ration multiplier selection.

Includes all necessary hardware and installation instructions!

Fits 5-Speed cars only. Also works for 96-98 cars when a T45 or 3650 with electronic speedometer has been swapped in the vehicle.

4 Stars   98 Cobra speed fixed!
By on 10/13/2014
I changed the rear gears in my 98 svt cobra and the speedometer was way off. A 23 tooth speedometer gear will get you close but will self destruct in your transmission. This calibrator in conjunction with a 21 tooth speedometer gear got me right where i needed to be. Mike provided me with excellent customer service from latemodelrestoration.com and I am more than pleased with my purchase.

5 Stars   Perfect!

I bought this product to correct my speedometer. I have 3.73s so I went through a couple of 23 tooth speedometer gears which weren't accurate so I finally put in a 19 tooth gear I had laying around an purchased the calibrater. It is spot on with my gps and was easy to install. I'm very happy with the product and how fast it was delivered.

5 Stars   Ford Racing: Take notes.
By on 4/4/2016
Image uploaded by Nathan P. I installed a 3.90 gear in my Cobra. The speedometer was 5 mph off at 35 and nearly 20 mph off at 70. I tried the Speed Calc by Ford Racing; the speedo needle was all over the dial; maybe it works for auto trannys, but not manuals. Later, I install a set of 18 inch wheels from LMR, but had secured this new Dallas Mustang Speed Calc months ago. I finally installed it yesterday. Whew!, why did I wait so long? I used the binary code closest to a 3.90 gear. For all practical purposes, my speedometer is SPOT-ON; it might me less than 1 mph off (GPS verified), but that aint nothin' to complain about. Here are a couple of install notes: 1. Near the top left corner of the inner boot, support the under side of the boot on a solid surface. Get a piece of pipe with 3/8 to 1/2 inch outside diameter. Press the pipe against the rubber, then strike it with a hammer a few times to make a perfect, NEAT round hole to feed the Speed Calc connector & cable wrap through. 2. On the underside of the car (supported SAFELY with jack stands), the front of the VSS (Vehicle Speed Sensor) connector is the end that attaches to the tranny. On the backside of the VSS connector, use a 1/16 inch punch. Carefully push the punch down by the side of each of the two wires - push the punch in as far as possible. Next, use an ice-pick like tool on the front of the connector to push the wire out of the VSS connector. 3. I chose to secure the unit with Velcro so it would not rattle in front of the shifter. If you do the same, you must position the unit with the short side towards the front and rear of the car so that the traction control and cig lighter connectors will clear the unit. 4. On the 7-switch connector in the unit, the #1 switch should be pushed up (UP is "1", DOWN is "0.") Leave the other 6 switches down at 0. Set you binary code for your unique application on the 10-switch connector. Enjoy!! The speed calc is a MUST if you change your gear and simple to install - everything is included.

5 Stars   Worked on my cluster swap
By on 2/15/2016
Image uploaded by Raul M. I did a 150 cluster swap in my 98 v6 and this helped me calibrate it correctly. I definitely would recommend for anyone doing the swap, or doing rear gears. It took some tinkering but I found the right setup in about 20 minutes.

I swapped to 3.73s from 2.73s. My speedometer was way off. I installed the Speedcal per the instructions and all is well now. A must have for anyone who swaps to 3.73s.
