With the prices of Fox Body continuously rising, we are seeing more and more 5 to 6 digit asking prices for low mileage 1979-1993 Mustangs. At the beginning of 2022, we saw a handful of Fox Bodies at Mecum in Kissimmee bring in some staggering numbers, which is a great sign for those who are restoring these cars.
While we watched in awe as a 1993 Cobra brought in an impressive $110,000, we thought this was about as good as it could get for these cars. Boy were we wrong. As of yesterday (4/14/2022) an original-owner 1993 Ford Saleen Mustang SC Convertible 5-Speed sold for $226,000 on the popular auction site Bring-A-Trailer.
In 1993, Saleen took only three convertible Fox Bodies and transformed them into a more stylish and more powerful collectors car making this a 1 of 3 Saleen SCs of 1993. Under the hood of the Saleen SC was a Vortec-supercharged 5.0 V8 that made roughly 291 horsepower. Saleen's goal was to hit 300 horsepower, so this number was a little shy of their goals but very impressive for the lightweight Fox platform. The Saleen SC was outfitted with a 5-speed transmission and a limited-slip differential which was a must-have for any Fox Body Mustang enthusiast.
With only 11k original miles, this car was offered with stock and take-off parts and was routinely maintained to ensure it runs as it did back in the early 90s. The seller also included the wind deflector, original window sticker, original purchase paperwork, Saleen literature, photos of the car being built, and much more to give the new owner an almost brand new vehicle.
