The 1994 Ford Mustang, code named SN95, was mostly new compared to the previous year's model. Ads pictured it next to a classic 1965 'Stang and announced, "It is what it was," much to the relief of Mustang enthusiasts everywhere.
For the 1994 model year, Ford decided to no longer offer a four-cylinder, replacing it with a 3.8 L V-6. It was basically the same engine that was last offered in 1986, but with recent improvements it produced 145 HP and 215 lb-ft of torque. The GT's 5.0 L V-8 got a new electronic engine controller and aluminum pistons, which both helped to increase its power to 215 horsepower and 285 pound-feet of torque. The SN95 ditched the hatchback in favor of the notchback and convertible. In addition, Ford increased the rigidity of the chassis by large amounts without adding too much extra weight. All-disc brakes became standard, along with larger wheels. Steering and suspension remained mostly unchanged.

The 1994 Mustang was designed with the consumer in mind. Ford conducted consumer clinics to find out what 'Stang enthusiasts really wanted. High on everyone's list were modern styling influenced by the original, a cheap and easily serviced V-8, rear-wheel drive, an affordable base price, and loads of options. Basically, a new version of the classic.
