The 4.6L V-8 engine offered in the 1996 SN95 Mustang came in two versions. One was meant for the GT, and it used a single cam iron block with two valves per cylinder. The engine revved higher and faster than the old pushrod V-8, and was smoother and quieter. It also was designed to meet future emissions standards, whereas the old V-8 wouldn't. The Cobra version of the engine had twin cams, four valves for each cylinder, and a cast-aluminum block. It produced 305 horsepower and 300 lb-ft of torque.
