In 2001, most of the changes were cosmetic in nature. A hood scoop was added to GT models, as well as non-functional side scoops. These features were optional on the V-6 as part of the "pony package". The smoked headlights that were first seen on the 2000 Cobra R, and a new rear deck wing made their debut on the base and GT mustangs. Ford also released a special version of the GT with the "Bullitt" nameplate, reminiscent of the '68 fastback driven by Steve McQueen.
The Bullitt 'Stang sat a little lower than the standard Mustang, with upgraded shocks and shorter subframe connectors, which both improved the handling. Some said it was the best handling production 'Stang ever. The power output was 270 horsepower and 302 ft-lb of torque, 90% of which was available from 2000 rpm. The result was a quarter-mile time 3-4 tenths of a second faster than a regular GT. The Bullitt was designed for subtlety on the outside, so was only offered in three colors: Dark Highland Green (like the original), True Blue, and Black.
