The 2002 "New Edge" Ford Mustang was designed with better handling in mind, and more power. The rear was widened by 1.4" and the shocks were retuned to improve ride quality in the face of stiffer springs. The steering was revised as well, with a better feel and a turning radius that was smaller by 3 feet. Engine-wise, the 2002 Mustang was pumped up compared to pre-1999 years. The 3.8 L V-6 received new cylinder heads, a higher flowing intake manifold, and some material changes. Horsepower increased to 190, and torque went up to 215. The GT's 4.6 L V-8 had a bunch of changes in store as well, and now produced 250 horsepower and 302 ft-lb torque. A new feature for 1999 was the option of traction control.
The Ford Mustang had been going strong for nearly 40 years, being the first ever pony car produced.
