On the 2015-17 Mustang GT, you can now turn your car into a tire shedding machine without having to install any aftermarket equipment or trying to find that perfect balance with the brake pedal. With the Line lock option you can now lock up the front brakes and allow the rear tires to spin freely with little effort. Not only will it let you leave the competition in a cloud of smoke, but it will also be useful for heating up your tires for improved traction at the track.
Ford has made it very simple to enable this feature; all you need to do is:
- Navigate to your track apps
- Then Select the Line lock option
- Once it is selected it will prompt you to apply and hold the brake
- Once the brakes are fully engaged, you will then need to press “OK”. After line lock is engaged you can then let off the brake and begin your 15 seconds of asphalt melting burnout. (Automatics Do Not Have A Time Limit)
- After the 15 seconds are over, your brakes will go back to normal. You can also manually turn off the line lock by pressing the “OK” button on the steering wheel.
Line lock comes as a standard feature on the V8 powered GT models. Even though it comes factory equipped, it does seem that using it improperly can void your warranty. Ford says it is for track use and racing may void your warranty. They also say damage caused by racing will void your warranty.
