Are Lowering Springs Worth It On An S197 Ford Mustang?

There are a ton of options when it comes to selecting the right suspension for your S197 Mustang. There are other options to choose from, like lowering springs or coilovers. But when it comes to saving money and looking good, a set of lowering springs is the way to go. The best part about it is that you won’t sacrifice ride quality (depending on how stiff and low you go).

We would like to point out a key factor when installing a set of lowering springs on an S197. A Panhard bar plays a key role when making the installation happen. You will experience a shift in the rear axle due to the 3-link suspension setup. Once the Mustang has been lowered, the geometry of the suspension pushes your Mustang's axle out to one side. Adding a Mustang Panhard bar as a lateral suspension link between the rear axle and the Mustang chassis can correct this issue. Check out our full lineup of Panhard bars before your order your springs!

Will Lowering Springs Affect Ride Quality?

Going lower will require firmer suspension. This means the car will be more rigid, less smooth feeling and you’ll sense most bumps. While that may be the case, the tradeoff for a smooth ride will allow your S197 to gain better handling than your factory suspension. You’ll stick to the pavement and corner much faster than before.

If you want to achieve better traction for your S197 Mustang, we highly recommend taking a step further to upgrade your camber plates, control arms, sway bar, bushings, and struts.

These Mustang lowering springs fit Ford Mustang GT, V6, Shelby GT500, Bullitt, etc.
