SVE Forged Wheels: The Ultimate in Performance and Style

At Late Model Restoration, we proudly offer the highest quality cast and forged wheels for Mustang enthusiasts. Our forged wheels are the ultimate in performance and style that you have come to expect from SVE!

What are Forged Wheels?

Our forged wheels are made from a solid block of 6061 aluminum that is heated and pressed with 10,000 tons of force into the wheel's shape. This compression of the material, and thermal cycling, allows further grain refinement.  The barrel wheel is then flow-formed with hydraulic rollers that apply intense pressure to the barrel to increase tensile strength. Precision CNC machining is performed to achieve their final shape and design. Forged wheel manufacturing processes produce a stronger, lighter wheel by eliminating potential cavities, voids, and shrinkage. Due to their refined grain structure, forged wheels are also mechanically more robust, ensuring better resistance to wear and deformation over time.

Why Choose Forged Wheels?

There are many reasons why you should choose forged wheels for your Mustang. Firstly, forged wheels are lighter than cast wheels, which reduces unsprung weight and improves overall performance. This can improve acceleration, braking, and handling.

Secondly, forged wheels are much stronger than cast wheels. This means they are less likely to crack or bend under stress, which can be especially important for high-performance vehicles driven hard on track events or rough roads.

Which Wheels Should I Choose

There are a couple of factors to consider when you are deciding between a cast wheel, flow-formed wheel, or forged wheel.

Price Point - This will be the main thing you will notice between the 3 types of wheels. Cast wheels are going to be the most cost-effective wheel for everyday use. Flow-formed wheels will be the middle ground in pricing. Forged wheels will be the top-tier wheel and have the most expensive price tag.

Use/Track Use - Cast wheels are great for everyday use with the occasional drag racing or road racing duty. Flow-formed and forged wheels are perfect for extreme use where wheels may see extreme pressures or heat. Some track events like 1-mile speed run require the use of forged wheels due to the extreme centrifugal forces exerted on wheels at extremely high speeds.

Styling - Due to the manufacturing processes used to manufacture the different styles of wheels, they will exhibit different appearances. Cast and flow-formed wheels will have softer lines on the edges, whereas forged wheels will usually exhibit sharper lines due to the CNC processing of aluminum.
