Installation Instructions
Step 1: Remove the Front Seat
Begin by removing the front seat of your Fox Body Mustang. Refer to our linked video below for a detailed guide on how to remove the front seat. The front retaining hardware consists of two 15-millimeter nuts, and the rear retaining hardware is secured by two 15-millimeter bolts. If applicable, disconnect the electrical connection and safely remove the seat from the car.
Step 2: Check Front Nuts for Stud Issues
While removing the front nuts, be cautious as the entire stud may come out. If this happens, you might need to use a jam nut setup to hold the stud and break the nut free. This issue typically occurs due to over-tightening of the nuts. A 15-millimeter ratcheting combination wrench is recommended for this task.
Step 3: Remove Plastic Covers on Seat Hardware
Depending on your car model, the seat hardware may have plastic covers. Use a push pin removal tool to gently remove these covers secured with small push pins, both at the front and back of the seat.
Step 4: Disconnect Electrical Connection
Ensure the electrical connection to the seat is disconnected. If the seat in your car has plastic covers, use a push pin removal tool to detach them. Once the electrical connection is disconnected, proceed to remove the seat.
Step 5: Locate and Remove Fuel Pump Relay
Locate the fuel pump relay in your Fox Body Mustang. In some cars, it might be positioned differently, either in the hole closer to the front or back. Using a push pin removal tool, gently remove the relay from its bracket.
Step 6: Consider Replacement
Consider purchasing a new fuel pump relay if needed. New relays typically come with a harness clip. Check the pigtail for any damage, and if necessary, replace it using common electrical knowledge, matching colors, and using butt connectors or soldering.
Step 7: Install New Fuel Pump Relay Bracket
Install the new fuel pump relay bracket. The bracket has a locating tab that fits into the seat bracket. Tighten the screw securely, and while doing so, you may need to slightly pull up on the bracket to ensure the relay is clipped into its proper locations.
Step 8: Torque and Wrenching Sizes
Torque the screw snugly, as this is a fuel pump relay bracket and doesn't require specific torque specifications. The factory screw is typically 11 millimeters, while the screw provided with the fuel pump relay bracket is 10 millimeters.
Step 9: Optional - Vacuum the Carpet
With the seat removed, take the opportunity to vacuum the carpet. Use an air compressor to flush debris towards the front or back, making it easier to clean the area.
Step 10: Reinstall Seats
Reinstall the front seats, ensuring they are securely tightened with the appropriate bolts. Once done, you've successfully installed the new fuel pump relay bracket in your Fox Body Mustang.
