Currently there is only one style of fox body superchargers out for aftermarket use. This type is a centrifugal supercharger. It helps to attain as much power as possible by using natural centrifugal energy to force additional oxygen into the engine. The increase in airflow into the engine allows the engine to burn more fuel which results in an increase in engine power output. The supercharger is driven off the engine’s crankshaft and sends compressed air into the engine. It is generally installed on the front of the engine and is powered by a belt or gear from the engine’s crankshaft.
With the vast amount of superchargers LMR has there are two options to consider when buying one, intercooled and non-intercooled. Both of these have their benefits and it’s up to you to consider which is the best for your Fox Body. Intercooled superchargers are only needed when there is a substantial difference in temperature between the air entering the engine and the intercooler. Superchargers with a higher boost create hotter air due to it compressing the air to allow more airflow and the effect of an intercooler would be noticeable. When using a low boost supercharger it does not create as hot of air as a bigger application it’s not always necessary to install an intercooler. This is because a intercooler interrupts air flow by creating a small obstacle for the air to go around, which results in a small loss of pressure.
