To be able to achieve the under 4 second 0-60, the 2018 Mustang will need to be equipped with the new 10 speed automatic (as used in the Raptor and performance package).
2018 Ford Mustang Drag Strip mode is also introduced. Gene Wildmann, Mustang chief engineer, states "In drag strip mode, the engine torque doesn't drop when you're shifting. You get peak engine torque and horsepower straight through." While quickest in Auto, it is available in manual transmission as well. With performance pack GTs, this drag strip mode changes the MagneRide damper settings to increase weight transfer to the rear axle for better traction.
The 2018 Mustang Ecoboost gets the Drag Strip mode too, along with a torque bump from 320 lb-ft to 350 lb-ft. The Ecoboost in Drag Strip mode allows for a 0-60 in under 5 seconds.

The 2018 Mustang video has been released and it looks like Ford has been busy adding some new styling cues to the S550 body style. Not only the front end, but the rear got a make over as well. We dive in and look a little closer at the redesign and let you know our thoughts of the new 2018 Mustang.
Today, the 2018 Mustang was released by Ford Motor company and it did not disappoint. Here is a list of the major 2018 Mustang differences.
The most distinguished new styling has to be the redesigned front end. Starting with the headlights, you immediately see a difference. The headlights are seemingly shorter and more square compared to the sleek, stealthy look of the 2015-2017 headlights. The headlights look to have a similar HID setup that it more pronounced with a larger chrome surround. The LED accent bars in the headlights also look to have taken a redesign going to a more angled look and might be grouped closer together. There is also an odd opening at the bottom that we are not quite sure could be but look forward to hearing about why this was added. The last and most important part is the overall shape. The shape of the light has been changed dramatically going from a teardrop style to a boxier look.
The 2015 Mustang was already a huge shock to the Mustang world with it's Euro styled front end, but the 2018 Mustang looks like it make ruffle a few feathers as well. Ford has ditched their earlier fog light design and replaced it with what looks like may be vents (we are hoping for something cool like brake coolers). The side markers look to have gotten a little larger and more pronounced as well. The biggest change we can see is the front grille. It looks Ford may have borrowed some styling cues from the Fusion and brought the grille material closer to the edge of the bumper as well.
From the video, it looks like we may see a wider, more distinctive heat extractor hood. The 2015 Mustang had already gotten sleeker heat extractors compared to the 2013-2014 body style but these seem to be much wider and sleeker.
The most exciting thing we have noticed is the standard issue quad tip exhaust offered on GT models! This is a great feature as it was a popular upgrade for many Mustang owners. The 2018 Mustang taillights have gotten a small tweak as well. From what we can see, they do have more an angle to them. A big change that caught our eye is the new rear spoiler. In the past, Ford has always done a two post or fully attached "duck tail" spoiler (Cobra, Saleen) but it looks like they may be venturing into a new style, possibly a 4 post?
While the 2018 Mustang video has left us with alot of questions to be answered, we are more than excited to get our hands on one and start some testing. In the mean time, keep it right here with the real Mustang enthusiasts, LMR.com.
Mustang6G.com member "whalesalad" posted these photos late Sunday of the undercarriage of the 2018 Mustang that was on display at the Woodward Dream Cruise. We are excited to see a few changes from the previous years and some features carried over from the GT350 such as the composite oil pan. The active exhaust is also visible and raises the question about owners swapping out their exhaust for aftermarket exhaust kits. All in all, it seems that the 2018 will not be completely different and we cannot wait to get our hands on one!

With the ever-growing aftermarket support for the Ford Mustang, it's no surprise that Ford has taken note and has added the most popular modifications to their Performance Pack options. The 2018 Mustang GT is no different with the addition of the Performance Pack Level 2 option.
The 2018 Mustang Performance Pack Level 2 is a $6,500 option added to your new S550. It includes track-tested performance upgrades and gives your Mustang a great new look with it's upgraded wheels and suspension.
The 2018 Mustang GT Performance Pack Level 2 Includes:
Created in secret, this Performance Pack Level 2 option was developed both on and off the track for real world testing. This achieved better aerodynamic scores with the larger and lower front splitter and redesigned rear spoiler. The engineers at Ford attached a Boss 302 splitter to the underside of the front to provide a 3" larger surface area which helped create about 24 pounds of downforce at 80mph. This, and the added rear spoiler helped give the 2018 Mustang better grip and handling on the track.
While most of the Performance Pack Level 2 upgrades are just that, performance, there were a few minor upgrades to the exterior. The exclusive 10 spoke Dark Tarnish wheels and tire spats are the most noticeable at first glance. Looking a little closer, you will notice some black detailing on the splitter and spoiler as well. When ordering, you will have the change to select Recaro seats in leather or cloth to provide a comfortable cockpit in your new S550
Overall, the Level 2 performance pack looks to be a pretty promising upgrade for new 2018 Mustangs. This also poses the question of what aftermarket companies will do as Ford lessens the need for upgrading your car. Only time will tell and we are anxious to see how far the Ford engineers will push the next level Mustang!
