With our 2024 Mustang GT in our hands, we wanted to get some baseline numbers on what the factory weight is before modding.
If you know us, you know how quickly we can mod a new car to get it to “our spec”. That is exactly what we plan on doing with our new 2024 Mustang, but first, we need to get some baseline numbers. As you may have seen, we recently dynoed our 2024 Mustang and made some pretty impressive numbers. This allows us to see what power the stock Gen 4 Coyote engine puts down and how much power we will make in the future. Before we start adding wheels, exhaust, and other performance modifications, we threw our 2024 Mustang GT on the scales to see what the S650 weighs.
When discussing the weight of a car, it is important to first discuss the options and trim level of the car. Since we wanted to get our hands on the first car we could find, this 400A package 2024 wasn’t the exact spec we wanted, but it was a great spec nonetheless.

Using Proform Wireless Scales, our 400A package S650 weighed in at 3,843 lbs. This is surprisingly similar to when we weighed our 2018 Mustang GT and got a weight of 3,860 lbs. The weights of these vehicles are going to vary due to body style and trim levels, but this gives us a good baseline for our own vehicle.
So why does weight matter on a car? Well, as most Mustang enthusiasts know, the lighter the car, the faster you can go, thanks to the power-to-weight ratio. As you decrease the weight of your car, your engine is able to accelerate faster due to the lighter weight. You will also get better agility and responsiveness, giving you better handling and suspension performance. When doing weight-reducing mods and power-increasing mods together, you have a winning combination of performance.
