This kit includes everything that you need to change the oil on your 2016-2017 Shelby GT350. Ten quarts of Motorcraft 5W-50 Full Synthetic Oil and one Motorcraft FL-2069-ST oil filter. This is the factory recommended oil and filter that Ford installs, so you can rest assured that your engine has the protection that it needs!
The Shelby GT350 and GT350R require the new oil filter to be torqued down after an oil change. This is due to the harmonics that the flat plane crank engine generates. If the oil filter is not torqued down, the filter will vibrate and fall off. This oil filter socket will make things easier by allowing you to properly torque the oil filter down. The socket attaches to any 3/8" drive torque wrench and provides multiple contact points for a secure fit. Constructed with high strength alloy, this filter socket is built to last.
The oil filter must be torqued to the factory recommended specs of 16-18 lb/ft.

What’s up everybody? Landan with Late Model Restoration. This video will cover my detailed walk through on changing the oil in a GT350 or GT350R Mustang equipped with the five point two liter VooDoo engine.
Alright guys, this oil change kit is going to include everything you need to do a complete oil change on your GT350 or GT350R Mustang. It’s going to include ten quarts of the factory recommended Motorcraft 5W-50 full synthetic oil, one Motorcraft filter that is specific for the 5.2L engine and the correct oil filter socket.
Since the oil filter is specific to the five point two liter engine in the GT350 there is an extremely important installation note for this little guy. If you notice on the top of the filter, there is a sequence of numbers. Those numbers are the factory recommended torque specs and are sixteen to eighteen pound of feet of torque. Failure to abide by those numbers could cause catastrophic failure to the engine. So be mindful of that when changing the oil in your GT350 or GT350R Mustang.
We recently road raced our GT350R and drove the absolute dog out of it down at the Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas. Which by the way, this car brought a lot of folks to the pits with higher end sports cars and exotics wandering why a Mustang was blowing their doors off. Needless to say, this car is totally badass and after that track outing needs a fresh oil change.
You will need, a three eights drive torque wrench, three eights drive socket wrench with a three inch extension, T-27 Torx bit, shop towels, funnel, access to a lift or jack and jack stands, a strip of old cardboard, drain pan and of course some quality brake clean.
To begin, support the car via a lift or jack and stands. Located the drain plug at the rear of the oil pan. Place the drain pan underneath the plug and loosen it with the three eights socket wrench and three inch extension.
Carefully rotate until oil starts to flow then remove the plug from the pan.
While the oil is draining from the pan, locate the oil filter access door. Remove the bolt with a T-27 torx bit. Set the access door aside and locate the oil filter.
Use the provided oil filter socket and three eights ratchet wrench to loosen the filter enough so that you can remove it by hand. Position a strip of cardboard up underneath the oil filter adapter. Now, fully remove the oil filter. Some oil will drip in random places, but the card board will contain about 90% of the oil.
Take this time to clean the area and any oil that may have dripped elsewhere in the general area. Prep the new filter by pouring a little bit of fresh oil into the filter to presoak the media. Apply a thin film of fresh oil onto the gasket.
Make sure the old gasket did not stick to the oil filter adapter and also make sure the mating surface is free of any foreign material. Thread the new filter onto the adapter and tighten by hand. Grab your torque wrench and set to eighteen pound feet.
Use the provided filter socket and position it over the filter. Carefully and precisely torque the filter. Re install the access door. The oil should be completed drained from the pan by now, so go ahead and wipe the area and retighten the plug.
Lower the car, and remove the fill cap. Use a funnel and pour the provided ten quarts of Motorcraft 5W-50 oil into the engine. When complete, reinstall the cap, double check your work and you’re all finished.
Alright guys, from start to finish, you’re probably looking at about an hour’s worth of your time. Really the only important note on this one is double and triple check your torque wrench and make sure it is set to the recommended specs. Other than that, enjoy your GT350 or GT350R, take it to the track and enjoy it; because after all, that’s why Ford made ‘em.
