Follow along as we walk you through the removal and installation steps of your S550 Mustangs Upper Front Grille.
Before you begin, removal of the front bumper is necessary. There are two different removal processes for the 2015-2017 and the 2018+ models. Be sure to check out the installation article or full video before you begin the grille removal.
Tools & Materials Needed
- Plastic Pry Tool
- Microfiber Cloths
- Socket Set
- Drill and quarter-inch bit
If you're installing one of Ford's OEM grilles, we recommend picking up a new Pony emblem. Check out what we offer below:
Removal Steps
- With the front bumper removed from the vehicle, set it on top of a workbench. Remove the bumper cover reinforcement by releasing all six of the clips with a pry tool. Remove the reinforcement from the bumper.
- Next, release all the tabs holding the grille to the front bumper. Start in the corner and work your way to the other side.
- Once you release a few of the tabs, the grille will separate from the bumper as you remove it.
- Remove the grille from the bumper, and take this time to wipe down the area.
Install Steps
- Set the bumper down and place towels on your workbench to protect and act as a cushion. Align the new grille with the tabs.
- Carefully engage all of the tabs.
- Reinstall the plastic reinforcement.
- Depending on the grille type, install the correct emblem if it applies to what you’re doing. Align the emblem and place it into the grille.
- Position one of the retainers over the tabs. Put pressure on the front side of the emblem and then use an appropriate socket to push it into place.
- Be extremely careful when doing this, as the tabs on the emblem can easily break. Ensure the socket is nice and straight whenever you fully seat the clip. Repeat this for the other tabs.
- Reinstall the front bumper and the radiator cover.
- After that, you’re good to go!
