If you own an 2005-09 Mustang & have the windows tinted, you've experienced the frustration of having Scratched Window Tint.  The reason for this is Ford (in their infinite wisdom) used a bare rubber Inner Door Belt Weatherstrip (the one on the left in the picture below).  In previous Mustang model years (2004 & earlier), the Inner Door Belt Weatherstrip had felt bonded to it to protect the Window Glass & Window Tint.  Us 05-06-07 Mustang owners are fortunate however because Ford (without ever admitting that they had a problem) started using a felt bonded Inner Door Belt Weatherstrip (the one on the right in the picture below) on the 08-09 Mustang.

2005 to 2007 Mustangs featured a inner door belt weatherstripping that did not protect your window tint from scratching. In the 2008 and 2009 models, Ford did fix this with a new door belt weatherstrip design. It featured a felt backing to help protect your window tint. Now, follow along in this video as I show you how to remove your door panel and install some new weatherstrip.

Start by taking a seven millimeter nut driver and removing the eight screws around the perimeter of the door panel. Remove the mirror hole covers by gently pulling it away from the door. Disconnect the electrical connector on the mirror switch. Take a small screwdriver and remove the inner trim cover behind the door panel, then remove the t 30 torques bit screw located behind the cover.

Now, remove the trim panel behind the door arm rest with a flat blade screwdriver. You can then remove the t 30 torques bit screw behind the cover. You can now remove the door lock and window switch assembly by gently pulling it away from the door panel. You will need to disconnect the wiring harness from the switch assembly before you can put it aside.

With the assembly out of the way, you can now remove the seven millimeter nut located behind it. With this nut removed, you can now remove the door panel by simply lifting up on it and gently pulling it away from the door. Disconnect the door lock and speaker wiring harnesses from the back of the door panel.

To remove the old door belt weatherstripping, simply pull it off the door. Now to reinstall the new one, all you have to do is align it and firmly press it into place.
