  • F-150 Raptor Wheel Torque Specs

The F150 Raptor is a high-performance variant of the Ford F150 pickup truck that was first introduced in 2010 and has since spanned three generations. The SVT Raptor was thought of by most as an off-road successor to the SVT Lightning until the recent release of the all-electric Lightning. The Raptor is known for its rugged design and exceptional performance capabilities on and offroad. Whether you are driving along the highway or taking your rig to an offroad event, keeping your wheels attached to the truck is extremely important.  Setting your wheels to the correct torque will be key to keeping your wheels and tires firmly mounted to the Raptor. Use the guide below correctly set your F-150 Raptor wheel torque before setting out on your next adventure.

F-150 Raptor Lug Nut Torque

All generations of Raptors will utilize the same torque specifications for the wheels.

Year ModelTorque Spec
2010-2014 - Gen 1150 lb/ft
2015-2020 - Gen 2150 lb/ft
2021+ - Gen 3150 lb/ft

Bead Lock Wheel Rings

Something to keep in mind is that some of the Raptors included the Ford Performance Raptor bead lock wheel option. While the wheel the truck torque spec remains the same, the ring that holds the tire to the wheel requires a special torque setting. With bead lock wheels, it is always a good measure to check the bead lock ring bolts to make sure they have not come loose. Ford Performance recommends a three-step torque sequence on the bead lock wheels.

StepTorque Setting
Step 111 ft/lb
Step 226 ft/lb
Step 348 ft/lb

When tightening the bead lock ring, you will use a specific torque sequence to distribute the torque evenly. Please note this is the sequence for the Ford Performance wheel. Different brand sequences and torque recommendations will vary.

Why is Lug Nut Torque Important?

Not tightening your lug nuts can lead to various issues, some of which can be dangerous. Over-tightening the lug nuts can cause the wheel studs or fasteners to break, while under-tightening can result in the wheel coming loose while driving. These situations can lead to severe accidents and damage to your Ford Raptor.

The correct torque value ensures that the wheel is tightly secured to the hub, preventing wobbling or movement from the wheel due to the rotational forces of the wheel turning. It also prevents the stud from stripping or breaking, increasing the safety and longevity of your truck’s driveline components.

How to Torque Your Lug Nuts

Torquing your Ford F-150 Raptor's lug nuts is a straightforward process. The following steps can help you do it correctly:

  1. Clean the center bore, hub, and wheel contact surfaces to remove any dirt or debris.
  2. Attach the wheel to the hub and hand-tighten the lug nuts.
  3. Use a torque wrench with the correct wheel lug nut torque setting to tighten the lug nuts to the proper torque value. We do not recommend using air guns as they can easily surpass the bolt torque limit. Start with the first lug nut and move in a star pattern to tighten the rest.
  4. Once all the lug nuts are tightened, double-check the torque values and ensure they match the recommended specifications.

It is also important to ensure that you use the correct socket for your lug nuts. Using an incorrect socket can lead to incorrect torque values, causing the same issues we discussed earlier.

Proper maintenance of your Ford F-150, is crucial to ensure the safety and longevity of your vehicle. Ensuring that the lug nuts are torqued to the recommended specifications prevents accidents and damage, keeping you and your truck safe on the road. We hope this guide on the Raptor lug nut torque values has been helpful!
