How To Install Ford Performance Oil Separator | 2020-2021 Shelby GT500

Unlike traditional oil separators, this Ford Performance separator incorporates a drain back hose that connects to the valve cover which essentially makes this oil separator maintenance-free.

• Fits 2020-21 GT500 w/o Track Package
• Will also work with 2011-17 5.0L and 2015-19 5.2L engines with the addition of M-6067-M52S aluminum cam covers. May require modifications of the provided hoses for fitment on 2011-2019 Mustang and Shelby GT350 engines.

1. Open the box and layout all of the components of the kit.



2. Open the hood and locate the retention straps and standoffs on the passenger side valve cover. Cut the straps and remove each standoff.



3. Disconnect the #2 and #3 coil on plug connections. Slide the white locking tab up then depress the tab to remove these.



4. Reroute the wiring harness below the main harness and reconnect the electrical connector by sliding the locking tab into place.



5. Do this for cylinder #3 as well.



6. Verify that the main harness that runs the length of the valve cover is pushed up to gain clearance for the canister bracket.



7. Position the canister bracket into place and install onto the 3 valve cover studs (2 on the top and 1 on the bottom).



8. Install 2 of the provided small nuts onto the upper studs and finger tighten.

9. Because of the location of the lower stud a magnetic socket will help hold the nut during installation. If you don’t have a magnetic tip socket, tear a piece of paper into small sections and jam the nut with the paper into an 8mm socket.



10. Use a swivel adapter and a long extension to carefully install the nut onto the stud.



11. Go ahead and fully tighten all of the nuts with an 8mm socket.



12. Since our kit had straps preinstalled onto the new standoffs, we chose just to use those to secure the main harness.



13. Route the strap around the harness and feed through the locking mechanism.



14. Push the standoff onto the stud and valve cover.



15. Do this for the other strap and standoff. You can go ahead and leave these loose.



16. Install the smaller pushpin tie strap onto the transmission wiring harness by routing the strap around the harness and feeding it through the locking mechanism.



17. Install the pushpin into the tab on the bracket and pull the strap to tighten. Because of the tight working space, you may or may not be able to cut the strap.



18. Remove the PCV breather hose that connects the fitting in the valve cover to the supercharger by lifting up on the small blue tabs and pull back to remove from the fittings.



19. Remove the PCV fitting in the valve cover and gently lift up on the coil cover and rotate the fitting counter-clockwise with the 15/16" open-ended wrench to loosen from the valve cover then remove the rest of the way by hand.



20. Install the provided PCV fitting into the valve cover and rotate clockwise by hand then fully seat the small tabs by rotating with a 1-1/16" open-end wrench.



21. Connect the provided PCV hose to the rear inlet port on the oil separator canister. To ensure that the hose is installed correctly, hold the canister in position to verify hose orientation.



22. Before you install the canister, pull the tie straps tight on the main harness near the valve cover and cut the straps.



23. Install the canister onto the bracket by sliding the canister into place over the 3 tabs.



24. Connect the PCV hose to the fitting in the valve cover and hand tighten the 10mm retaining bolt.



25. Locate the plug in the valve cover that is underneath the oil fill cap and loosen and remove this plug with an ¼” Allen socket.



26. Install the 90-degree fitting and hand tighten 4 turns so that the fitting is perpendicular to the valve cover.



27. Disconnect the lower VCT electrical connector. Slide the locking tab up then depress the tab to remove it.



28. Go ahead and tighten the jam nut and torque to 16 lb-ft.



29. Install one of the provided spring clamps over the drain hose and install it onto the 90-degree fitting.



30. Bottom out the hose against the base of the fitting and then slide the clamp into place.



31. Position the clamp so that it’s easy to remove if this ever needs to be serviced.



32. Install another clamp onto the hose and slide it onto the fitting in the oil canister and position it into place.



33. Double check to ensure that the hose is not contacting the oil fill cap or that it is not kinked which will hinder drain back.



34. Reconnect the VCT electrical connector and slide the locking tab down.



35. Install the remaining PCV tube to the supercharger and to the top of the oil separator. The shorter end will connect to the supercharger.



36. After that you’re good to go!
