Hey! What’s happening guys? Landan here with Late Model Restoration. This video is going to cover my overview and install of Diode Dynamics fourth brake light harness for the 2015-2016 Mustang.
Diode Dynamics is a manufacturer of LED lighting products for the automotive industry. Founded in 2006, Diode Dynamics is located in St. Louis, Missouri and focuses on developing innovative, unique automotive LED components.
This fourth brake light kit from Diode Dynamics converts the factory reverse light to illuminate both bright white, and red. Not only do you get an upgraded pure white reverse light, this kit also adds a red running or park light and of course acts as a fourth brake light.
The red light comes on at 50% brightness anytime the parking lights or headlights are on. This will provide a distinct appearance at night and will complement the factory LED tail lights.
Now, when you hit the brakes, the red light will emit 100% brightness and will serve as a supplementary brake light. This will increase safety and of course give your S550 a unique look.
Last, but not least! This bulb still retains your factory reverse light, however it does up the ante and feature a brighter, more pure white light for better night time visibility. Of course, when you do go into reverse the red shuts off completely and the bulb will illuminate a crisp, white color.
With all of that jibber jabber out of the way, follow along fellas as I walk you through the steps on installing Diode Dynamics fourth brake light kit into this 2015 EcoBoost Mustang.
To begin installation, start by popping the trunk. Unscrew the four plastic trunk panel retainers; there will be two per side. Carefully pry forward and then up on the rear trunk panel; remove it from the car.
On the passenger side, use a push pin tool to remove the single push pin securing the trunk liner to the body. Roll back the trunk liner and unplug the tail light electrical connection. Plug the Diode Dynamics fourth brake light harness in between the tail light and main electrical connection.
If you have a set of Diode Dynamics sequencers installed, the fourth brake light must be plugged in before the sequencers. Re-position the trunk panel and re-install the plastic push pin. Remove the push pin from the driver side trunk carpet. Unplug the tail light and main electrical connection. Plug the fourth brake light harness in between the two connections. Re-position the trunk carpet and re-install the push pin.
Locate the floor grommets; you can use either one of these to pass the single red wire through. Whichever one you choose, poke a hole in the grommet with the supplied small flathead screwdriver. Pass the red wire through the grommet. From underneath the car, pull some of the red wire through the grommet. Rotate the reverse light bulb socket counter-clockwise and remove it from the housing. Remove the bulb and then unplug the socket from the connector.
Use the small flathead screwdriver and push the rubber plug out of the connector. Slide the red wire into the center of the connector. It will help if you look at the front side of the connector and see the orientation of the other pins. Install the included Diode Dynamics bulb into the socket, and then plug the socket into the connector. Re-position the socket into the housing and rotate the socket clockwise to lock it into place.
Take this time to zip-tie the wire out of the way. Again, you can use the other grommet if you’d like. Back inside the trunk, zip-tie all of the electrical wires along the existing wiring harness. Re-install your rear trunk panel and re-tighten the plastic retainers. Replace the spare tire cover, double check your work, and you’re all finished.
As far as installation is concerned, this one should take you no more than thirty to forty-five minutes and it can be completed right in the comfort of your own garage.
