What’s up everybody? Landan with LMR.com! Welcome to my review, install and dyno runs covering the Ford Performance stage one power pack designed for the 2015 to 2017 Mustang GTs.
Alright guys, if you’re wanting to increase horsepower and torque in your 2015 to 2017 GT, and keep things simple while doing it; this stage one power pack from Ford Performance is for you.
It’s going to feature, a high flow K & N air filter that comes pre-oiled and is washable and reusable. Next is Ford Performance’s ProCal tool. This little guy allows for calibrations of both manual and automatic transmissions. Manual owners get an exclusive no-lift strategy while automatic owners get increased line pressure for faster, more positive shifts. It’s going to increase throttle response to the electronic throttle body, allows read end gear changes, and the ability to read diagnostic trouble codes.
Inside the box you’ll receive the filter, ProCal tool, ninety-one or higher octane sticker and a piece of paper which provides the correct link and calibration code. A laptop computer is required to operate this tool and whenever you flash the PCM with the Ford Performance calibration, ninety-one octane fuel and higher is required.
Ford Performance rates this stage one power pack at thirteen peak horsepower and sixteen peak torque over a factory car. This kit is 50-state legal and retains the vehicles warranty as long as an authorized dealership completes the install. For more information on the limited warranty, click the link in the video description, or check it out on the product page.
Ok guys, I have our 2015 Mustang GT strapped to the dyno. It does currently have a Ford Performance GT350 style cat back with the sport mufflers. Also, this is a Performance Pack car so it’s a six speed manual with 3.73 gears. Alright, let’s turn the rollers.
In stock trim, this car managed to make three hundred and ninety-five horsepower at sixty-five hundred RPMs and three hundred and seventy pound feet of torque at thirty-nine hundred RPMs. Those are SAE corrected numbers with a fifth gear pull and on ninety-three octane.
Now, installing the filter is very easy. Pop the hood and located the Mass Air Flow sensor on the intake tube. Underneath the connection, pull the locking tab toward you and then disconnect the MAF. Remove the push pin from the air box lid. Unclip the two clips securing the lid to the air box. Slide the lid toward you to release it from the bottom tabs on the air box. Lift the lid and position out of the way.
Remove and discard the factory filter. Install the high flow K & N filter into the air box. This will only go one way. Reposition the lid, snap the clips into place, and reconnect the Mass Air Flow sensor.
Grab your laptop, ProCal tool, USB cable and calibration sheet. Follow the simple instructions on the sheet to create a Ford Performance account and have access to download the ProCal software. Once that is finished, plug in the tool to the OBD two port located just the right of the driver side kick panel.
Plug the cable into the ProCal and the laptop. Open the ProCal software and allow it to read the VIN. Enter the calibration code and download the file. Program the vehicle. Allow the programming to finish and then unplug the ProCal from the OBD two port.
Alright fellas, the filter is in and the PCM is flashed. It’s time for round two. Let’s see what she makes.
Check this out guys, our second pull with the stage one power pack netted us four hundred and ten horsepower and three hundred and eight-nine pound feet of torque. That’s good for peak gains of fifteen horsepower and eighteen pound feet of torque. More impressively, check out the curve gains at forty-three hundred RPM; twenty-one horsepower and thirty-eight pound feet of torque. Those are some damn good numbers for a drop-in filter and a tune.
