This 19-1716-BL Prothane ball joint dust boot set for 1979-93 Mustang contains 2 sets of dust boots. One larger set that work great on 1984-1986 Mustang SVO, & one smaller set that work great on all other 1979-1993 Mustang. They are constructed of black polyurethane for stock type looks & excellent performance.
Mustang ball joints are greatly affected by dirt, moisture and other elements. It is this reason why Prothane urethane joint dust boots are a must have. Protect this essential suspension component!
I picked up a set of control arms locally that had new ball joints but both boots had torn for whatever reason. I figured $13 was less than $50 (or whatever Moog replacements cost) and the trouble of pressing them out and in.
The large boots are comically large for anything I've found on my 86 so far. The small were a perfect fit, however. But reassembly is where the issue lies. As soon as I pumped it full of grease and tightened down the spindle, it started to seep where the boot meets the control arm. Granted, I was articulating the ball joint in ways it shouldn't move under normal circumstances, but the boot would lift and expose the joint. It may be fine but I can imagine these ball joints will wear quicker than usual.
Put the $13 you were about to spend on these towards new ball joints instead. The quality is great, but it's a bandaid due to the fitment. If there was some sort of retention for the base other than hopes and dreams, they would be great.
Yes, I would recommend this item to a friend!

They are great quality and fit very tight like u want them to.
Lifted or lowered suspensions, increases in horsepower, plus-size wheels and tires can subject traditional rubber suspension bushings to forces beyond their limits. Control arms, strut arms, leaf springs, body mounts, motor mounts, transmission mounts, sway bars and shocks all control movement and maintain alignment but the rubber bushings they use are designed for more "middle of the road" use. Rubber also deteriorates over time, further reducing control. This contributes to premature component failure, a "spongy" ride and less than ideal performance handling. Urethane bushings can correct these conditions, and improve drivability in your Mustang or Ford Lightning.
