Replace the old, worn, or missing striker in the trunk of your 1979-1993 Fox Body Mustang with this complete trunk latch striker kit from industry leader 5.0 Resto! The provided components work together to refresh your trunk with a new trunk latch striker, a retaining bracket, and two mounting screws. The striker is identical to the original and allows plenty of adjustment using the new retaining bracket and hardware to properly mount it in place to secure your trunk.
5.0 Resto's latch striker is a complete reproduction of the original, including the correct bends and diameter of the factory striker. Also included is a retaining plate that features the OE bends and mounting holes to accurately retain the striker. Both the latch striker and retaining plate in this kit are constructed from durable steel to the factory length and dimensions that are then finished in a bright zinc coating. Lastly, 5.0 Resto includes two mounting screws covered in a black phosphate coating that contain the floating washer, correct thread pitch, and length for a simple install! This latch striker will fit 1979-1993 coupe/notchback and 1983-1993 convertible Fox Body Mustangs.

Installation Instructions
Step 1: Removing the Rear Trunk Liner
This install can be done with or without removing the interior trunk panel. Be cautious with the push pins, as they can crack if moved in the wrong direction. This step helps in avoiding damage to rear panels.
Step 2: Taking Off the Old Striker
If you prefer not to mark the original striker's position, simply take it off. Align the new striker with the existing marks and tighten the new hardware. Break loose the old hardware and remove the old striker.
Step 3: Cleaning the Area
Wipe the area where the striker will be installed. Since it's metal on metal contact, there will still be existing marks to guide you.
Step 4: Installing the New Striker
Situate the new striker followed by the retaining plate. Hold them in place and walk the nut plate into position in the trunk. Start threading the bolts by hand to secure the new striker.
Step 5: Aligning the Striker
Ensure the new striker is aligned properly by referencing the existing marks. Tighten the bolts by hand and secure snugly to test fit operation. Once you verify proper latching, you can snug down the bolts to the proper torque spec.
Step 6: Testing the Trunk Operation
Before closing the trunk, verify that your key operates the latch. Test the trunk to ensure engagement with the striker. If needed, adjust the position of the striker by loosening the bolts and moving it accordingly.
Step 7: Final Checks
After adjustments, test the trunk again to ensure proper engagement. Once satisfied, tighten the bolts securely.
Conclusion
Replacing a trunk latch striker is a straightforward process that can be done with minimal tools. Following these steps will help you efficiently replace the striker and ensure smooth trunk operation.
