Maximum Motorsports is a well-respected, leading developer of suspension systems and performance parts. Established in 1992, the team at Maximum Motorsports has spent countless hours researching and developing the highest quality suspension components for your 79-present Mustang!
If you are upgrading rear upper control arms or your car needs a rear upper axle bushing, then this tool from Maximum Motorsports is a no brainer. It is manufactured from quality, high strength steel and comes with all of the needed hardware to press out and press in new bushings. This tool saves you the hassle of using an air chisel or burning the old bushings out.
All you need to make this work is an open-end wrench and socket with socket wrench. Although, a cordless or air powered impact would make the job even easier if you have access to either or. When using this tool, it’s in your best interest to get some things out of the way before beginning. Support the rear of the center section or the axle tubes with a jack. Remove the lower shock hardware and then the springs. Now you can you remove the upper control arms and then spray the axle bushings with a penetrating catalyst.
Position the bushing receiver over the metal flange on the axle bushing. Slide the included bolt through the receiver and then place the smaller, included spacer on the end of the bolt. Finally, tighten down the nut and start loosening the bolt, not the nut. You may have to add the additional spacer to completely remove the bushing.
We used this Maximum Motorsports bushing tool on our very own Project Green Bean, and I’ll be honest with you guys; this tool is an absolute must have. It made our lives very easy and we didn’t have the mess on our hands from burning or chiseling the old bushings out. Keep in mind when you replace your rear upper axle bushings you do have some choices. You can reinstall a factory rubber bushing or upgrade to a urethane or solid bushing depending on your application and overall goal of the car.
