1987-1993 Mustang Armrest Base Installation

• 1987-93 Mustang Door Panel Armrest Assemblies

• Microfiber Towels
• Nitrile Gloves
• Grey Scuff Pads
• Dish Soap
• Bucket
• Isopropyl Alcohol or Dedicated Prep Spray
• Skewers & Painter's Tape
• Phillip's Head Screwdriver Set
• 1/4" Socket Set
• 3" 1/4" Extension
• Staple Gun
• 5/16" (8mm) Staples

Step 1: Prep The Parts For Paint

• Using a grey scuff pad, warm water, and dish soap, scrub down the armrest base and pad to prepare it for paint. Scrub lightly as to not damage the surface and texture.
• Put on your nitrile gloves to prevent oils from getting on the clean surfaces.
• Using a microfiber towel or compressed air, dry all of your components. 
• Wipe all of the surfaces that will be painted with isopropyl alcohol

Step 2: Painting Your Components

• Stage all of your components in a well-ventilated, clean area, and shake your paint cans for about 60 seconds.
• Using light coats, paint your components leaving ample drying time between coats until fully coated. 
• You will want to take your time here to get a nice, durable coat on your armrests.

Step 3: Install The Chrome Strip

• Situate the chrome strip in the front section of the base.
• Hold the strip into place and secure it with a staple in the notches. Install another staple for good measure.
• Route the strip onto the base and secure it with two more staples at the other end. 

Step 4: Install The Armrest Pad

• Place the armrest pad onto the base.
• Using the provided screws, loosely install them into the bottom of the base and pad.
• Tighten the inner screws first, followed by the outside screws, making sure not to overtighten them

Step 5: Install The Armrest Hooks

• Place the armrest hooks into place. These will only go on one way.
• Tighten the hooks ensuring not to overtighten.

Step 6: Install The Armrest To The Door Panel

• First, pass the switch panel through the opening
• Next, align the hooks with the cutouts on the door panels
• Loosely install the frontward and rearward screws.
• Then, loosely install the middle lag bolts
• Tighten all of the hardware.
• Reassemble the switch assembly and install it into your door panel armrest.
