How To Install Lower Dash Trim On The 1990-1993 Fox Body Mustang

The 5.0 Resto lower dash trim (aka knee panel) for the 1990-93 Fox Body Mustangs is a factory reproduction of the original. It incorporates the OEM dimensions, tolerances, texture, and attaching attributes such as the OE-style clips, textured rubber seal, and anti-rattle pads. The lower dash trim is available in black or paintable (neutral gray) finishes. The black finish is correct for the 90-93. When painting the gray lower dash trim, be sure and mask or remove the rubber seal and properly prep the trim before painting. Allow 24 hours of cure time before installation. Included with each lower dash trim are the factory-style screws.

Installation Instructions

Step 1: Remove Old Dash Trim

• Remove the lower section of the steering column trim by removing the (2) Phillips head screws.
• After the screws are removed, separate the two sections of the lower section and set it aside.
• From underneath the lower dash trim, loosen and remove the (3) 8mm screws.
• On either side, grab the panel from the top and bottom and pull straight out to dislodge the clips.
• Take this time to prep and paint the new dash trim panel if need be.

Step 2: Install New Lower Dash Trim

• Position the new lower dash panel into place and seat the clips. If needed, roll the ends of the rubber seal into their proper position.
• Reposition the lower column trim and make sure the little tabs on both sides are properly engaged with the upper trim.
• Reinstall the (2) screws for the steering column trim.
• Install the provided lower screws by hand to the new trim panel, then snug them down. The middle screw may seem short, but it is not. Simply push up on that portion of the lower dash trim to get the threads started.
• After that you are good to go.
