JONATHAN MCDONALD: Today we've got the privilege of working on Carson's '98 chrome yellow Cobra. Whenever he picked it up it had these smoked-style headlights in it, which really looked pretty good. But they're starting to fog up on him, and one of the adjusters broke on the driver side, making his light flop all over the place. What we're going to do is swap these out with our stock style replacement '94 to '98 Cobra headlight kit. Along the way, I'm going to show you a trick or two this going to make this job a lot simpler.

Removal of your '94 to '98 Mustang headlights is going to begin with you grabbing and 11 millimeter wrench or an 11 millimeter socket and ratchet. Go ahead and remove the side marker nut. Pull the side marker away from the vehicle and unplug the side marker. Now you can move on to the headlight. Remove the upper retaining clip using a pair of needle nosed pliers.

Then grab you a 12 millimeter box end wrench. Slide it over the other two retainers, and it'll release the tabs, allowing you to pull the headlight away from the header panel. With the headlight out of the car, go ahead and unplug it and set it to the side. So after you get your headlights out, you may notice that you've got a few broken or missing pieces.

Broken headlight socket, broken park light socket, no problem. We have you covered with brand new replacement headlight pig tails, parking light pig tails, parking light bulb sockets, and new replacement bulbs. Broken side marker retainer, no, says I. We have brand new ones. Lost your head light clip? Don't worry about it, we have new ones of those, too.

Installation of your new headlights is pretty much the opposite of the removal. Go ahead and plug in your head light bulb. Line up your adjusters. And lock the headlight into the header panel. Install your upper retaining clip. Grab your old side marker, remove the park light bulb and socket, transfer it to your new side marker.

Plug the side marker in. Line up the tabs and slide it into place, and reinstall the attaching nut. Don't over tighten the attaching nut. You just want it snug. If you're over tighten, you will break your header panel.

Man, these lights fit like a glove. Don't forget to adjust them before driving at night. Check out the rest of our '94 to '98 Mustang lighting section at latemodelrestoration.com.
