It didn’t take long for the 2015 Mustang to be recalled thanks to a faulty seat belt. This easy fix was limited to a very minimal number of S550 Mustangs!
Ford Motor Company announced that they are recalling some of the first 2015 Mustangs off the assembly line – less than 50 in total. They are being recalled due to a possible issue with the passenger side airbag and seat belt incorrectly identifying the passenger's size. This could result in the airbag deploying on a child when it should not deploy in a collision.
Luckily for the owners of these S550 Mustangs, this is an easy fix! It will require you to take your 2015 Mustang back to the dealership and have them replace the passenger side seat belt assembly. You can read more about this recall in the press release below and the NHTSA report at the bottom. You can also download the full reports below.
Ford is issuing a safety compliance recall for approximately 50 (actual 53) 2015 Ford Mustang vehicles for a potential issue with the passenger safety belt buckle assembly. The safety belt buckle tension sensor, included in the assembly, may not have been calibrated by the supplier. A buckle tension sensor that is not calibrated may result in misclassification of the front passenger seat occupant, which is a noncompliance issue with FMVSS 208. This issue may lead to improper passenger airbag deployment for the occupant, increasing the risk of injury in a crash.
Report Receipt Date: OCT 17, 2014
NHTSA Campaign Number: 14V649000
Component(s): SEAT BELTS
Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain model year 2015 Ford Mustang vehicles manufactured August 18, 2014, to October 2, 2014. In the affected vehicles, the passenger safety belt tension sensor may misclassify the size of the front passenger seat occupant. This could cause a child-size occupant to be classified as an adult and an adult passenger to be classified as a child passenger. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 208, "Occupant Crash Protection."
If the tension sensor misclassifies the front passenger, improper passenger airbag deployment may occur, increasing the risk of occupant injury in the event of a vehicle crash.
