The 94-04 Mustang had a neat little Door Panel Insert integrated in to the Door panel that housed the Switch Panel as well as the Door Pull. Because this is a high-wear area & the Mustang Door Panel Insert is plastic, they are known to break. Sometimes only the Door Panel Insert Retaining Clip is missing or faulty, & we have those too, just in case!
The odds are if you own or have owned a 94-04 Mustang then you have experienced issues with a door panel insert. Often these scratch, start peeling or just plain break. No worries... we have you covered when it comes to replacement door panel inserts. Installation is quick and easy. We offer Ford Original door panel inserts for all models of Mustangs 94-04. They come in either black or charcoal finish depending on year model. The 94-98 Mustang door panel inserts feature a true black finish where the 99-04 Mustang door panel inserts feature a charcoal finish. If you have a parchment (tan) panel insert you will need to purchase some interior paint to make these match. Another notable difference in the door panel inserts is the fact that the driver's side door panel insert is different for the coupes and convertibles. Convertibles have an extra set of quarter window switches.
For the install, I used the new Mustang aftermarket door panel insert. It is only available for the driver's side door and comes in a black textured finish. This door panel insert matches the 94-98 style black door panel inserts. If you wish to use it on your 99-04 Mustang, you will need to paint it to match the color of your door panel - 99-04 Mustang Interior Paint. This door panel insert includes a new clip. Note: texture on the aftermarket door panel insert is not an exact match to the original piece.
Start by prying the top of the door panel insert away from the door panel. You will notice a small indention that you can insert a small flat head screw driver into to pry. With the top pried away from the door panel you can now pull up on the panel insert. If your panel insert clip is in good working order, you will need to pull up with some force near the rear of the insert where the clip is located. Often times the door panel insert clips loosen or stop working - especially if the door panel insert has been removed a couple times. If the rear of door panel insert does not stay in place, you may only need to replace the clips.
With the door panel insert removed from the door panel, you can now turn the door panel insert so that you can access the wiring harness connections to the mirror switch, door lock switch and window switches. This is a good time to replace any switches that are not functioning. For easier access to the lock and window switches, disconnect the mirror switch first. Pry up on the grey tab and pull the wiring harness connection out of the mirror switch. The lock and mirror switches are held in place by two philips head screws. Remove the screws and the switch assembly can be pull away for the door panel insert. Next, remove the window switch from our old door panel insert. The switch is held in place by tabs on all four sides. Press in the tabs and push the switch out of the door panel insert. I found that starting 1 or 2 of the tabs with a flat head screw driver works best. Continue to push and hold the slight pressure as you push in each tab and the switch will "pop" right out.
