Our 2014 Mustang GT project car got some killer exterior styling mods with a full Roush RS3 conversion. We decided it was time to give it some serious power to match those new killer looks on the outside. Sticking with the full Roush theme we had going, we decided to install a Roush Phase 2 Supercharger kit.
The Phase 2 Roush Supercharger Kits advertise 625 horsepower and 525 ft/lbs of torque. Impressive numbers for a blower only install. The Roush supercharger kits make these impressive numbers thanks to the included 2.3L TVS blowers. These kits are built around these powerful and efficient TVS blowers. The Phase 2 also includes twin 60mm throttle body, high flow 110mm mass air meter (MAF), 47 lb injectors, high-efficiency intercoolers, Roush custom tune voucher and more!
Once we got the Phase 2 Mustang supercharger installed, we figured we would put the Roush claimed horsepower numbers to the test! Big thanks to Justin Starkey from VMP Tunning for bringing out his Dynojet mobile dyno to help with our testing. We loaded the 2014 Mustang onto the dyno and did the first pull with the Roush supplied tune. Our GT laid down an impressive 505 HP and 435 ft/lbs of torque. Figuring a 15-20% driveline loss with the automatic transmission, the Roush numbers were very close!
Next up we let VMP Tuning work their magic with their SCT software and an SCT X4 tuner. After Justin Starkey uploaded the new VMP tune, the 2014 Mustang picked up some serious power. The new tune produced 519 HP and 493 ft/lbs of torque. That is an additional 14 HP and nearly 60 ft/lbs of torque!
This project car is an absolute blast to drive on the street! The HUGE increase in horsepower and automatic transmission makes for a fun drive. The handling is spot-on, braking is impressive and the exhaust is aggressive without hurting your eardrums. Now if I can just stop looking for a clutch pedal with my left foot when I get in the Stang I’ll be all good!
