During the debut of the 2024 Mustang, we saw the all-new redesign of the S650. Ford announced both the EcoBoost and GT Models. When things couldn't get any better, they hit us with the Dark Horse.
Check out all the details and everything you need to know about this new flagship Pony car!
Ford gave us what we've all been wanting. This special model is track-focused and got an engine to match its complete redesign. Ford states it will be home to an enhanced 4th Gen 5.0L Coyote capable of nearly 500 horsepower in stock form. It includes a dual throttle-body intake design to improve engine breathing, accentuated by the open nostrils in the front grille. The Dark Horse will have forged internals, like GT500 rods.
While Ford tested the Dark Horse at the track, additional powertrain enhancements were made for performance. This includes brake cooling NACA ducts, an auxiliary engine oil cooler, a rear axle cooler, and a unique and lighter-weight radiator with improved cooling capability and more powerful cooling fans to improve endurance and recovery.
They will offer the Dark Horse with a unique Tremec 6-speed manual (these come standard with a 3D-printed titanium shift ball) or a 10-speed automatic configuration.
Moving on to the 2024 Mustang wheels and suspension, Ford added unique chassis tuning, larger rear sway bars, and heavy-duty front shocks. The front setup showcases a 6-piston Brembo with a massive 13.9" rotor and a 19x9.5" front wheel with all-new 305/30/19 Pirelli P Zero (PZ4) tires. Moving on to the back, there is a 19x10" wheel with a 315/30/19 tire. Ford also added rear Brembo calipers and an electronic drift brake!
Buyers may equip the Mustang Dark Horse with lightweight carbon fiber wheels from Carbon Revolution for uncompromised track performance (late availability). Since the Shelby GT350 and GT500, carbon fiber wheels have never been offered for a Mustang. Ford offered many great choices of 2024 Mustang wheels for the new platform.
The Mustang Dark Horse offers standard MagneRide® shocks capable of sensing wheel and tire movement 1,000 times per second to optimize performance dependent on the road surface or driving mode.
Ford wanted to ensure that the Dark Horse stood out among the crowd. That's why this model got its styling cues. In the front, a gloss black grille with trapezoidal nostrils and a lower front bumper with high gloss "fangs" distinguish the Mustang Dark Horse, where a strong shadow pattern surrounds the darkened LED headlamps. The car's track-oriented design elements are displayed by lower side skirts, a fixed rear wing, a redesigned diffuser with a racing-inspired look, and darkened quad exhaust tips.
To visually distinguish this performance variant of the Mustang from other versions, special emblems were created. The fenders, trunk, and door sills receive badges, while the front of the car retains the dark-anodized form of the iconic pony. Each car has a distinct chassis number and features distinctive Mustang Dark Horse badging on the instrument panel and digital display screens.
The 2024 Dark Horse will offer a wide variety of color options: for both interior and exterior. The one that has been the most talked about, "Blue Ember Metallic," is the one that everyone wants. This Dark Horse-specific color has a cool, dark shade that emits a warm glow when it catches the light, setting the tone for the car's overall appearance.
Along the roof and below the hood, feature graphics can be painted or applied in various hues. Brembo brake calipers with a brighter Grabber Blue logo and dark Notorious Blue accents are part of the optional Appearance Package.

The new 7th Generation interior has been reimagined! There's a lot of debate regarding the "cockpit" design. Some find it to have way too much technology, and others think it ties together performance and luxury.
On models with a 10-speed automatic transmission, there are anodized silver paddle shifters on a larger, flat-bottomed steering wheel completed with Bright Indigo Blue accent stitching. Nearby is a separate drive mode button that allows users to quickly pick their favorite driving mode. This is situated in front of a 12.4-inch digital instrument cluster with movable screens that include various drive modes.
Behind a single piece of integrated glass tilted towards the driver, this digital instrument cluster effortlessly transitions into a 13.2-inch SYNC® 4 center stack. These screens work together to produce a realistic digital experience that simulates a fighter jet cockpit.
