The First Gen Ford SVT Lightning was released in 1993 with a rubber ripping, torque machine under the hood in the form of the 351W 5.8L V8. Featuring GT40 cylinder heads and a unique tubular upper intake manifold that, arguable, is the best-looking intake manifold that Ford used in their EFI pushrod engines, it produced 240 hp and 340 lb/ft. of torque! This truck competed directly with the much larger 454 ci. engine found in the Chevrolet SS 1500 pick up. When we say compete, we mean stomped all over! The smaller Windsor V8 propelled Ford’s SVT F150 down the road faster than its bowtie competitor and did not look back!
Only four colors were offered with this 1993-95 F150 Lightning, Oxford White, Raven Black, Vermillion & Ultra Red. This kind of truck did not need flashy colors in order to do its job. The SVT Lightning let its performance do the talking. It may not be much compared to today’s standards but back in the early ’90s, a performance full-size truck of this caliber was second to none. Raven Black was offered on 1993-95 Lightning models. Below are the productions numbers:

Vermillion Red was offered on 1993 & 1995 Lightning models. The only difference in color between these 2 years was that 1993 models all had Single Stage Paint and with 1994-95 models having a Basecoat Clearcoat. This led to the 1993 Vermillion Red color having a paint code of EP and the 1995 model having the E4 paint code. Below are the productions numbers:

Ultra Red was offered on just the 1994 Lightning model. This color was originally called Crimson, but was eventually changed to what we know as Ultra Red. Below are the productions numbers:

Ford’s muscle truck would take a break from 1996 to 1998. When the SVT F150 Lightning was relaunched in 1999, it was a whole new ballgame! Out was the 351W 5.8L pushrod V8 and in was the new modular 5.4L V8 topped with an Eaton Supercharger making 360 hp and 440 lb/ft. of torque! These numbers were increased in 2001 to 380 hp and 450 lb/ft. of torque. Hitting 60 mph in 5.2 seconds with the change in 2001, there was not a truck on the road that could come close to sniffing the SVT Lightning’s tire smoke!
With its newfound looks and power, Ford offered the truck in a number of new colors that complimented the smooth body lines of the SVT F150! Familiar colors like Bright Red, Oxford White, and Black returned for the 2nd Gen SVT Lightning. They look right at home on these trucks. Some new showstopping colors that have become highly sought after include Sonic Blue and Dark Shadow Grey. These colors are also fan favorites on the Mustang and some enthusiasts even have a Mustang and a Lightning of the same color! Imagine having a Sonic Blue 2003 SVT Lightning and a Sonic Blue 2003 SVT Cobra nestled next to each other in your garage!
