Designed to fit 2018-21 Mustangs with either the 6-speed manual MT82 or 10-speed automatic 10R80 transmissions. Also, this must run on 91 octane or higher.
Tools Needed:
- Basic Hand Tools
- Laptop
- Internet Connection
- SAE J2534 Pass-Thru Device (might be easier to reach out to a Roush certified dealer to flash the PCM instead)
Application:
- Fits 2018-2021 Mustang GT
Installation
- Support the car via A-lift or as high as possible on jack stands.

- Underneath the car, remove the large push pins at the rear of the lower closeout panel (2 in the center, 4 on the driver and passenger sides).
![]()
- Loosen and remove all of the 7mm screws (make sure to hold the panel with your free hand when removing the last screw).
![]()
- You can now remove the closeout panel.
![]()
- Remove push pins to remove radiator lower splash shield.
![]()
![]()
- Loosen and remove the (2) 10mm bolts that secure the heat exchanger to the lower brackets.
![]()
- Loosen and remove the (4) 10mm bolts securing the spanner bar to the K-member (2 per side).
![]()
- Hold the bar with your free hand when removing the last bolt and set aside.
![]()
- Fully remove the (2) passenger side heat exchanger 10mm bolts.
![]()
- For now, only loosen the driver side hardware.
![]()
- Unclip the passenger side connection, but don’t fully remove yet and position a piece of cardboard behind the heat exchanger which will help deflect and direct the coolant towards the drain pan.
![]()
- Place the drain pan underneath this area and fully remove the passenger side hose.
![]()
- Leave the drain pan where it is and remove the driver side hose from the heat exchanger. Because of the way the heat exchanger is engineered, the coolant will flow from the passenger side fitting.
![]()
- Position the upper hose out of the way and fully remove the 10mm bolts.
![]()
- Tilt the heat exchanger toward the passenger side to let more coolant run out.
![]()
- Now you can fully remove the heat exchanger.
![]()
- Place the new heat exchanger on a workbench and use the provided foam weatherstripping and apply to the perimeter (this is the side that will make contact with the condenser).
![]()
- Install the new heat exchanger into the car and align with the upper brackets.
![]()
- Loosely install all (4) of the previously removed bolts and fully tighten.
![]()
- On the old heat exchanger, remove the rubber grommets and metal sleeves and transfer to the new heat exchanger.
![]()
- If needed, remove the plastic clip from the old heat exchanger and install back on the quick connect fitting.
![]()
- Install both hoses on the heat exchanger and verify they are fully seated by moving the fitting back and forth.
![]()
- Before reinstalling the spanner bar, loosen and remove the (2) 13mm bolts that secure the lower brackets.
![]()
- Position the provided lower brackets behind the rubber grommets and tighten the previously removed bolts.
![]()
- Position the spanner bar in place and loosely tighten the previously remove bolts.
![]()
- Install the 13mm bolts and fully tighten.
![]()
- Go ahead and tighten the heat exchanger to lower bracket bolts followed by the spanner bar bolts.
![]()
- Remove the cap from the reservoir and fill with coolant.
![]()
- Since the new heat exchange is larger, a little more coolant than normal will need to be added. If it helps, power on the car without starting the engine to allow the pump to circulate the coolant. Per Roush, the coolant should be roughly 1” below the top of the cap.
![]()
- Once you screw the cap back on the reservoir, go ahead and start the car to reach operating temperature. Check for any leaks and turn off the car.
- At this time, you can reinstall any of the components that were removed for installation. If needed you can drive the car to the dealership so that they can flash the PCM with the updated Roush calibration.

- Once the PCM is flashed, you are good to go!
