How To Install Fox Body Mustang Hatch Striker (1987-1991) - How To Install Fox Body Mustang Hatch Striker (1987-1991)

Loosen and Remove the (6) Phillips Head screws that secure the passenger side rear hatch panel (please note that we had a broken tab and missing screw when examining the vehicle).

Tilt the panel and carefully disconnect the electrical connection; now you can remove the panel from the car.

Before removing the existing striker, clean the surrounding area with an all-purpose cleaner and alcohol.

Mark the washer and the bracket that holds the light switch.

Loosen and remove the striker with a T50 Torque socket.

With the old striker out of the way, clean the area if needed.

Go ahead and install the new striker and tighten by hand.

Align the marks and fully tighten the striker with the same T50 torque socket.

Apply a thin coat of all-purpose grease to the bushing.

Close the hatch and verify that the striker is properly aligned, if not open the hatch and make small adjustments to the striker.

*PLEASE NOTE:* There is no one answer to adjust the striker setting. Many things can come into play such as deteriorated hatch weatherstrip, and/or a worn latch assembly.

Once you are happy with the alignment, reconnect the electrical connection, reposition the rear panel, and retighten the (6) retaining screws and you're all done!
