How To Remove 1994-1998 Mustang Taillights

If your taillight has a light bulb out or you're needing to replace a busted lens, removing your taillight is the first thing you need to consider. This process won't take more than 30 minutes of your time and is quite simple.


Required Tools

  • Ratchet Set (Extension May Be Needed)
  • 7/16 Socket
  • Plastic Pry Tool


Taillight Removal Process


  1. To begin, pop the trunk and disconnect the battery.

  3. Remove the four push pins holding the trim panel.

  5. Remove the trim panel.

  7. Unscrew and remove the two carpet wingnuts.

  9. Fold the carpet down and out of the way.

  11. Use the 7/16 socket and remove the four taillight nuts holding the taillight in place.

  13. Disconnect the taillight wiring harness.

  15. Push the harness through and remove the taillight. Take this time to clean around the area and replace any broken bulbs. Repeat the same steps for the other side and reverse the steps to reinstall.
