99-04 Mustang Headliner Removal
How’s it going everyone, Jay here with LMR.com. Today we will go over the steps on how to remove your factory headliner from your 99-04 Mustang.
Removing the headliner from your New Edge can be needed from time to time. This can include a simple replacement for a damaged part, to a full interior restoration. Lets go over to our 04 Gt to show you how this one is done.
Let’s start off by removing each of the A-pillar trim sections. Grab a hold of the top edge and pull the trim away from the body to release the retaining clips. Do this for each side.
Remove the headliner trim on each side.
Now let’s move to the back seat area and you will need to remove the cover off of the seat belt anchor. Once this is removed, take the torx bolt out from the seat belt to remove this from the car.
Go to the coat hook above the rear interior quarter panel and open the access cover by using a small flat bladed screwdriver. Once this is down, remove the phillips head screw holding this in place.
Grab the center of the panel and pull out to release the tabs.
Repeat this for the other side.
Moving to the dome light, use a small flat bladed screwdriver to separate the lens from the housing.
Once this is off you can access the 3 phillips head screws that hold this in place. Lower the dome light down and disconnect the electrical connection.
Now you will need to remove both sides of the sun visors and the retaining clips.
On each sunvisor, there will be two phillips head screws that will need to be removed. Once these are out you can lower the visor and disconnect any electrical if equipped.
Repeat this for the other side.
Now on each of the visor clips you will need to remove the phillips head screw from these and remove them from the car.
Located on each back corner of the headliner you will need to release each of the retaining clips holding this in place.
These year models are glued in from the factory. Slowly work your way from the side and release all of the adhesive. Once you have the headliner free, you will need to detach the electrical harness. You can now take this time to clean any leftover adhesive on the roof skin.
Alright everyone, this one will take you a few hours to get out of the car. Tools will include a screwdriver set, a torx bit set, and assorted cleaning supplies.
