1979-1993 Fox Sunvisors
What's up everyone, Jay here with LMR.com and today we will be going over the installation of the Fox body Sunvisors covering all 1979-1993 models.
One of the worst things to have happen while driving your car can be the sun visor not staying in place when you need it to. This can blind you and cause an unsafe driving condition. We here at LMR have you covered.
These visors will be offered in many different factory color options, materials such as cloth and vinyl, and we offer fitment for all of the coupe, hatch and convertible models.
We also offer the correct attaching rods and hardware to make these installs as easy as possible.
Follow along and we will show you how these go on the car.
Today we will be working on our 90 Hatch here in the shop.
As you can see, our factory lighted option visors have seen better days. The lights no longer work, the mirror cover will no longer hold in place, and the material is tattered and torn.
Start by hopping in the car and pulling down the factory visor.
Using a Phillips head screwdriver, locate both of the attaching screws on the rod base and remove these from the car.
If equipped, disconnect the electrical connection for the factory lighted mirror.
We opted to replace the rod and the visor at the same time. You are able to remove the factory rod and reuse this if you want, but since ours was lighted, we did not want to have to omit the factory harness.
Moving to a clean work surface, take the new visor and locate the end where the rod will be installed. These will not be pre-cut so you will need to make a small slit for the rod to be inserted into through the fabric.
Remove the rod from the package and clean any residue off with a clean rag and a little brake clean.
When inserting the new rod, do not use any grease or lubricants on the rod. This can cause the new visor to not hold in place as it is intended.
Take your time here, this is a very tight fit. I found that rotating the new rod while pushing it worked best. This process can be time consuming so do not get frustrated here.
One you have this fully seated you can start to install this one back on the car.
If you do have a factory lighted option like we did, you will need to tuck your factory harness up into the headliner area.
Start off by making sure that your rod base is in place and double-check your visor to clip placement.
If this does not line up, make adjustments as need be until you have the proper alignment here. Once aligned reinstall both of the attaching screws and you are all done.
Alright everyone, this is a great way to refresh your interior and get your visors work as they should. Installation time should take roughly a half an hour with basic hand tools. As I mentioned earlier, do not get frustrated with the installation of the rod on the new visors. This was honestly the hardest part and took the most time. These are meant to be a very tight fit overall so that you do not have any flop on the new visors.
