How To Replace 1994-2004 Front Wheel Hub Assembly - How To Replace 1994-2004 Front Wheel Hub Assembly

In this replacement article, we will be showing you how to remove and install the Front Wheel Hub Assembly for all 1994-2004 Mustangs. Audible noises and steering wheel vibrations are good indicators your font wheel hub assembly needs to be replaced. These steps show you how to replace your SN95 or New Edge front wheel hub assembly and will have you back on the road in no time!

You can use this general removal on all 1994-2004 vehicles. Overall this one should take you roughly an hour to complete.

Tools Needed

Lift or jacks
Jack stands
3/8" ratchet or impact
Assorted sockets
36mm socket
Wrenches
Hammers
Pry bar
Brake Cleaner & Rags

Removal Steps

To begin, support the front of the car via jack stands or the entire car with a lift.

Remove the front wheel on the side that you are working on.

Locate and remove the (2) 15mm bolts securing the caliper to the spindle.

Use a pry bar to help remove the caliper from the rotor.
Tech Tip: Use an old coat hanger or something similar and hang the caliper out of the way

Remove the front rotor and set it aside carefully.
Pry the dust cap off of the hub assembly.
Loosen and remove the hub to spindle retaining nut with a 36mm socket.

If needed, gently tap the backside of the hub with a drift and hammer to remove it from the spindle.

If the race and rear cover separate from the hub, use a drift and hammer to remove it.

Clean the spindle with a towel and brake parts cleaner.

Install the new hub assembly and ensure that it fully seats onto the spindle.

Thread a new retaining nut on the spindle and then run it down with an impact.

The torque spec for this nut is 250 pound-feet.

Install the dust cap and lightly tap it with a hammer until it's fully seated against the hub face.

Reinstall any component that was removed and torque all the fasteners to factory specifications.

Repeat the steps for the other side and reinstall the front wheels. Torque the lugs to factory spec and lower the car.
