The trunks of coupe and convertible Fox Bodies are operated by torsion rods and do a great job for what they do, but when they malfunction, it can be a headache fixing them or finding the right replacement parts. This FPP Customs trunk lift support kit for the 1979-1993 Mustangs Coupe/Convertible remedies this issue and upgrades your Fox at the same time. Follow along as we walk you through the easy steps of installing this kit.

Installation
Step 1Carefully remove the inner trunk liners using a door panel removal tool. Be very careful removing the trunk liners as they can be very brittle and crack very easily.
Step 2Locate the side mounting locations. Using a ruler, measure the distance between the center of the push pin hold to the center of each outward hold. Transfer these measurements to the liner and using your stepped drill bit, drill 9/16" holes for each mounting stud.
Step 3Install the mounting bracket using the provided mounting hardware. Pass the bolt through the backside of the mounting location and secure the locknut using two ratches and the 9/16" deep/shallow sockets.
Step 4Carefully remove the tension rods by unhooking the rods from the mounting locations. Use a floor mat or other thick pad to keep the rod from damaging the trunk panel. Using a rubber mallet, remove the tension rods from their mounting locations. MAKE SURE YOU HAVE YOUR TRUNK SUPPORTED.
Step 5With your trunk properly supported, you can now start to install the rest of the kit. Reinstall the trunk panels and secure them by installing the provided castle nuts. Snug these down, ensuring they are not overtightened.
Step 6Locate the top bolt on the upper bracket on the trunk lid. Removed this bolt and install the provided ball nut stud and washer.
Step 7Install the gas shock, making sure that the body of the strut is facing the trunk lid.
Step 8Check for proper operation.
