Mustang Bump Steer Kit Installation (15-23)

Correct your lowered Mustang's suspension geometry with this 2015-2023 Mustang bump steer kit! When you lower your Mustang, it creates bump steer. When the suspension moves up and down it creates an unwanted change in toe which changes the steering direction on its own instead of the driver. Correct this unwanted byproduct of lowering your 2015-2023 Mustang with any kit from LMR.com!

    1. To begin the install, support the car via a lift or jack stands.

    1. Remove both front wheels.

    1. Remove the outer tie rod to spindle retaining nut with an 18mm deep socket.

    1. Strike the side of the spindle with a hammer to free the tie rod from the spindle.Do not remove it from the spindle at this time.

    1. Use a crescent wrench to loosen the jam nut. You’ll want to barely back the jam nut away from the outer tie rod.

    1. Measure the distance from where the outer tie rod made contact with the jam nut to the middle of the ball joint on the tie rod. This distance should be approximately four and one-quarter inches.

    1. Now you can remove the outer tie rod from the spindle. Rotate it counter-clockwise to remove it from the inner tie rod.

    1. Place the aluminum body and rod end assembly on a workbench. Thread the rod end away from the aluminum body. The distance from the edge of the aluminum body to the center point of the rod end needs to be the same length as the factory tie rod. This should be approximately four and a quarter inches.

    1. Once that length is achieved, run the jam nut up against the aluminum body. Use a fifteenths-sixteenths open end wrench on the jam nut and a crescent wrench on the aluminum body; tighten the two together.

    1. Thread the aluminum body onto the inner tie rod until it bottoms out on the nut. Ensure that the rod end is horizontally parallel with the spindle.

    1. Use a fifteenths-sixteenths open end wrench on the jam nut and a crescent wrench on the aluminum body; tighten the jam nut against the aluminum body.

    1. Before positioning the tapered stud into the rod end, place one of the provided tapered spacers over the stud.The tapered portion will be facing the rod end.

    1. Slide the stud into the rod end. Check to make sure that the inner tie rod and bump steer assembly is parallel with the lower control arm. If not, remove the tapered stud from the spindle and rod end.

    1. Slide off the tapered spacer and install one of the provided spacers, follow this with the tapered stud and then check to see if it is now parallel. Use the appropriate spacers to net the closest to parallel that you can achieve. The alignment shop will be able to properly set this.

    1. Once you have the inner tie rod and bump steer assembly close to parallel, install the other provided tapered spacer with the tapered end facing the rod end.

    1. After that, install any of the unused spacers followed by the retaining nut.

    1. Place the provided washer over the stud where it passes through the spindle.

    1. Loosely tighten the provided retaining nut.

    1. Use a 7/8” flat wrench on the tapered stud and a 15/16” deep socket on the bottom nut to fully tighten; this nut is torqued 50 lb-ft.

    1. Fully tighten and torque the upper nut with a 3/4” deep socket to 40 lb-ft.

    1. Ensure that the jam nuts are tight and then repeat these steps for the other side.

  1. Get the car on the ground and double-check your work. Head over to the alignment shop so they can properly dial in your alignment.
