1985-93 Mustang Fox Body A/C Eliminator Bracket Installation Instructions
If you're looking for a quick, and easy way to clean up your engine bay, and rid your Fox Body Mustang of that parasitic loss of engine power, then look no further than the Ford Racing A/C Eliminator Bracket!
*NOTE* Before installation of your Ford Racing Mustang A/C Eliminator Bracket, you will need to have the cooling system evacuated if it has any freon!
Open your hood and locate the serpentine belt tensioner, using an 18mm socket and breaker bar, rotate the tensioner toward the passenger side of the engine bay and remove the serpentine belt from the engine accessory drive.
Disconnect the A/C compressor electrical connection on the clutch and then disconnect the connection by the driver’s side fender apron.
If you’re A/C system is still charged, take your Mustang to a trained professional and have the system properly evacuated of all existing freon.
Once this has been completed, remove all of the associated lines from the existing A/C system on the engine. You can also remove any other related A/C components at this time such as the dryer and accumulator if you choose.
Loosen and remove the upper two ½” bolts from the stamped steel compressor retaining bracket.
Beneath the compressor, there will be two more ½” bolts to remove on the same stamped steel bracket from the engine.
Moving to the cast aluminum retaining bracket on the compressor, remove the ½” bolt located next to the distributor spout connector.
Holding the compressor with a free hand, remove the last ½” bolt on the opposite side.
The compressor is now free, and you can remove this from the vehicle.
Loosen and remove the 11/16” nut and long stud.
While supporting the power steering pump with your free hand, loosen and remove the lower 9/16” retaining bolt. You can now let the pump sit on the lower radiator hose at this time temporarily.
Now remove the last three 9/16” nuts that hold the stamped steel retaining bracket on the engine. You can now remove the bracket from the engine.
Loosen the 5/8” bolt on the cast aluminum bracket on the drivers side cylinder head. You can now remove this bracket and bolt from the engine bay.
Take this time to clean the cylinder head mating surface and blow the area clean from all debris.
Moving over to your work bench, take the 3 new supplied short bolts in your 50Resto A/C eliminator bracket kit and apply anti=seize to the threads.
Slide the new supplied lock washer on all three bolts.
Position the provided cast aluminum bracket from the kit on the cylinder head mounting holes, this bracket’s flat side will contact the head and will only sit flush in one way.
Install all three of the bolts in the bracket and tighten them down using a 9/16” socket.
Moving to the stamped steel bracket in the kit, note the proper orientation of this part. The raised portion of this bracket will face toward the center of the engine bay and will be in the 12 o’clock position.
Apply a small amount of anti-seize to the threads of the studs from step 12 and slide the new bracket into place. Thread on the previously removed nuts to these studs but do not fully tighten. Make sure to leave adequate room for the power steering pump to slide into place.
Apply a small amount of anti-seize on the threads and shoulders of the supplied long bolts from the kit and install the last two provided lock washers.
While supporting the pump assembly, insert one of the long bolts into the lower mounting position and thread this in a few turns to support the pump.
If equipped, remove the power steering line retaining bracket from the frame rail of the engine bay.
Rotate the power steering pump into the upper mounting arear and install the last long bolt into place and fully tighten these using a 9/16” socket. Also tighten all remaining nuts at this time too.
Reinstall the serpentine belt and check for proper operation. NOTE-Use LMR’s handy belt guide (pictured below) to properly choose the correct belt you will need for your particular application.
