How To Install Mustang 5.0 Resto Rear Upper Control Arms

Adding a set of these 5.0 Resto Rear Upper Control Arms is a great way to restore your Mustang's ride quality back to what it once was while keeping your Mustang within factory spec! 5.0 Resto manufacturers these upper control arms to OEM specs and tolerances. These upper arms feature a correct rubber hydro bushing and stamped steel construction. This will help keep down noise, harshness, and vibrations from the rear end of your Mustang. These can also be installed on any 1979-2004 7.5" or 8.8" rear differential. Installation is quick and easy with the use of a few common hand tools!

Tools Needed

Lift or Jack Stands
18mm Socket and Wrench
Soft Mallet or Dead Blow Hammer
Pry Bar

Installation Instructions

Support the car via a lift, or jack and jack stands. Remove both of the rear wheels from the vehicle.

Take this time to support the rear end with a jack, or a pole jack, closest to the pinion flange.

Remove the lower shock hardware to allow movement with the rear end. Both sides of the hardware will be an 18mm bolt head/nut. Lower the rear differential housing down enough to remove the rear springs from the car. This step is not 100% needed, but it will help free up some room for the upper arms.

Remove the control arm axle side hardware first, with a combination of 18mm socket and wrench.

Next, loosen the hardware on the body side of the rear upper control arm, and remove the bolt. You can jack up on your jack, or pole jack to change the pinion angle to help free the arm out of place.

Install the new control arm, and reinstall the hardware the same direction that you removed it. If a bolt is difficult to slide through the bushing, tap it with a dead blow hammer. Tighten down the hardware to 90 lb/ft for each side, and do these same steps for the other control arm.

Double check your work, and you're all done!
